Polls show that ad is hurting Kerry, especially among veterans. His campaign is demanding President Bush renounce it.
"The president needs to step to the plate, not through a spokesperson, himself, and say, take down these ads, Sen. John Edwards said.
The Bush campaign wont take the bait. What the public sees from the Kerry campaign is a series of false and flailing attacks, they charge. The president himself has been the target of $63 million in attack ads, they claim, and Bush wants all soft money ads stopped.
"John Kerry's campaign is the only campaign that has questioned anybody's service during the Vietnam War," Bush campaign spokesman Steve Schmidt said.
But all this sniping, political experts say, hurts Kerry more than Bush.

LOL, good point.
But I've got two fine color autographed photos of George and Laura hanging on the wall in my den right over the computer.
Just two???
"And you probably won't get a thousand dollars worth of direct mail asking for more."
Amen to that. It seems when you give they try to make you feel guilty for not giving more. Got fed up with it fast.
But a donation to swiftvets, best money I have spent, probably in my whole life.
Give em hell swifties!
I predicted yesterday that the presstitutes would not be able to spike this story over the weekend, despite their desperate efforts to do so. Not only have they failed, they have added more fuel to the fire. The swift boat stories on FR today are not coming from blogs and internet sites, as they were last weekend, but from the lamestream press. True, the presstitutes are doing their best to cover up for Kerry, but it isn't working.
When the dems -- and media -- "took on" Paula Jones, et al, they took on people who really weren't very good at defending their stories. John O'Neill is a whole different animal. He's bright, honest, articulate and knows his facts.
Things are going very badly for Kerry now. There is nothing his campaign has done to put a lid on this controversy, and that goes for Kerry's blood brothers in the media as well. Even Granny Democrat who only gets her news for Dan, Peter, and Tom knows something's up.
This isn't going away, thank goodness. The spike has collapsed.
That's just in the den.
My house has 14 rooms.
:>))
Sorry, I don't know. Somebody on FR is sure to, though.
I hope that the Swift Boat Vets go full press to get Kerry's military and medical records released. They must contain a lot of ammo, by the way Kerry is protecting them.
And why in the hell shouldn't it?
President Bush did what he felt was right when he joined the NG and learned to fly jet aircraft. When he was finished, he was finished. He, like the vast majority of veterans, didn't need to brag about his exploits. Not so with Kerry. It's been his whole life. And now it is directly leading to his demise.
Couldn't happen to a more deserving prick.
You know, Kerry stood still and stayed mum a couple of
months ago while Bush was pitchforked by nasty ads
slamming and questioning his (honorable) National Guard
service. Now, Kerry is issuing statements of his
condemnation of those ads against Bush and asking why
Bush doesn't do the same for him. How naive!
What happened to "Bring it on"?
This is (happily) reminiscent of Gary Hart's call for the press to follow him, resulting in the Monkey Business fiasco.... Kerry asked for it, and now that he got it, suddenly doesn't want it any more...... You gotta love it.
I donated to SBVT last week as well and I agree most bang for the bucks! They are doing a fantastic job.
Don't forget the old media exception. t\They can campaign for Kerry and trash President Bush as news and opinion with impunity. The only people who do not have the First Amendment Freedom of Speech for 60 days are you and me.
That's correct, but I hope that people recognize that if they had incorporated, they would have protected themselves from personal liability.
As a non-corporation, these guys have put themselves and their property on the line - once again. They deserve our gratitude and our support.
"Didn't John Edwards himself say to "spend 3 minutes with anyone who served with John Kerry?"
Well, so far I've spent 60 seconds with some of them, having seen the first and now the second of the Swift Vets 30 second ads.
That was enough to get me to send them $100, thus doing my little part to aid them in giving the country the much needed remaining two minutes worth.... ;-)
# 53 is perfect.
Belongs on every Kerry thread.
There is no doubt that Kerry slandered all Vietnam vets in 1971 before the Senate Committee. Currently, he is mocking the service of all Guards and Reserves who served during the Vietnam era. Counting families, relatives, friends, etc. Mr. Kerry is making millions of enemies. By the way,per page 198 of Unfit For Command,Kerry enlisted in the U.S. Naval RESERVES on February 18,1966,after request for deferment is denied.
