O'Neill Dares Kerry: 'Sue Me'
NewsMax .com ^ | 8/22/04 | Carl Limbacher

Swiftboat Veterans for the Truth spokesman John O'Neill dared Sen. John Kerry on Sunday to sue him for libel if, as Kerry's presidential campaign maintains, key claims in O'Neill's book "Unifit for Command" are not true.

"I invite him to sue me for libel," O'Neill, who co-authored the overnight bestseller with Jerome Corsi, told WABC Radio's Monica Crowley. "If he was actually in Cambodia on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day he should sue me. If, in fact, those other five [Swift]boats, on March the 13, [1969], if they all fled like he did, instead of staying like he knows they did, he should sue me."

O'Neill continued:

"If he didn't wound himself with a grenade - causing sort of a rice-fanny wound - and then reported it to the Navy as a water mine - if he didn't do that on March 13th should sue me."

O'Neill issued the challenge after noting that Kerry's campaign has gone to extraordinary lengths to supress the information in "Unfit for Command."

"On our first [Swiftvet] ad, he had two huge lawfirms send letters to every [TV] station, threatening to sue the stations themselves" if they ran the ad, the former Swiftboat commander told Crowley.

"The next thing he did was challenge the book's publisher, Regnery, indicating he would sue them if they continued printing the book," he added.

The bestselling author said that while Regnery declined to stop printing "Unfit," it offered to republish Kerry's 1971 book "The New Soldier," which chronicles the top Democrat's anti-war protests with a group bankrolled by Jane Fonda.

Kerry has declined to have "New Solidier" republished over the years and reportedly bought up most of the available copies in 1972, after his opponent in a congressional race used it to paint him as anti-American.

If he sues they can go into discovery right away, and subpoena his records as evidence in the case.

Then, they can be 'leaked' I suppose...

I would have been very surprised if O'Neill (a lawyer) had not not made this dare. If Kerry actually sued, O'Neill could get his hands on everything in Kerry's records at discovery. Kerry will either stand down now, or go ahead and file and then withdraw before discovery can begin.

He won't sue. Discovery can start the minute a judge accepts the case. ALL of Kerry's records will be up for grabs.

EXACTLY and Kerry (being a lawyer) Knows this

He can't have those Records and Journals released

His political career would be over .. and he knows it

Sue? Not a chance. The SBV's have to quit advertising after Sept. 2, IIRC, but a lawsuit would keep this in front of the news for the foreseeable future. Kerry is trapped.

I just love it when Lefties try to paint Republicans as trying to "stifle dissent."

Imagine the uproar if Bush sued to have anti-Bush books from being published, or anti-Bush ads from being run, or if Laura Bush told a reporter to "shove it."

Is there any chance that a copy of "The New Soldier" can be located, scanned to text, and put online?

I haven't been there but I understand that it's available at the wintersoldier website.

Kerry's defenders in the media are playing the role of suckers in a draw play. They are rushing toward the quarterback yelling, "War hero! War hero! He is so a war hero!"

Quarterback now lobs the ball over their heads. "No, he was Jane Fonda in pants."

Touchdown!

Speaking of which, where is his trusty sidekick these days? Haven't heard a lot of peeping from him recently. Could it be that he's beginning to realize he's hitched his wagon to the wrong ambulance?

Ya gotta give it to O'Neill. After all these years he finally gets his reckoning with a traitor....to paraphrase, reckoning is a dish best served cold.

From ebay:

"This is the complete text of The New Soldier on CD-ROM; this is not a book!

The only picture on this cd-rom is of the cover. The text
contents were part of the Congressional Record; As a result of The Freedom of Information Act it is therefore public domain.

I am offering this text cd as a service to those who want to know more about the Presidential Candidate, U.S. Senator John Kerry.

Because I see this as a service, my prices are low and I offer

Free Shipping!!!

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask! I want happy bidders!!!"
