New book criticizes President (Buchanan again!)
Fort Worth Star- Telegram ^ | 8/23/2004 | David Kirkpatrick

Posted on 08/22/2004 10:29:33 AM PDT by sinkspur

Patrick Buchanan, the conservative commentator whose Republican primary challenge and divisive convention speech weakened the first President Bush's campaign for re-election in 1992, is publishing a book excoriating the second President Bush over the invasion of Iraq, just in time to grab a share of the limelight at another Republican convention.

In Where the Right Went Wrong, released late last week, Buchanan calls the invasion of Iraq "the greatest strategic blunder in 40 years, a mistake more costly than Vietnam. If prudence is the mark of a conservative, Mr. Bush has ceased to be a conservative," Buchanan wrote. The release of the book, which coincides with the Republican National Convention, gives Buchanan occasion to lay out his case on television and in book promotions just as the Bush campaign seeks to project an image of unity, reviving unhappy memories of the disruptive role Buchanan has played in the past.

"He has a following in conservative circles," said Paul Weyrich, a veteran conservative organizer. "It is not what it once was just because the religious right is not particularly enamored with him. But it is going to have an effect. In a very close election, criticism from anybody who is credible is going to have an effect."

In an interview, however, Buchanan said publishing a book during the campaign was the best way he knew to inject what he considers important ideas into the debate. "The reason I wanted it out now is, it addresses big issues that are not being addressed in this campaign: the massive and growing deficit, the disintegration of the culture and a Wilsonian foreign policy that means war ad infinitum," he said.

I'm sure his book will be more easy to find than Unfit for Command.

"Why does everything have to boil down to helping or hurting Bush?"

Perhaps you should ask buchanan that question; his intentions were quite clear the last election and quite clear this election.

In two weeks you will be able to find them on the $2 and Under tables. Still, more expensive then the equivelent amount of real toilet paper.

Defense? -- Dream on jackson. I'm no buchanan fan. --- Personality wise, he's a bit too much like you, as a matter of fact. [IE; the absolutist authoritarian type]
Perhaps that's why you hate him so..
Soul-brother jealousy?

Of course you are. He's anti-Bush...rabidly anti-Bush. All the qualifications you need for being a fan. A fan that you quickly rushed to the defense of.

I can live with Bush, [barely], as long as he keeps his hands off my RKBA's.

I could NOT live with buchanan as da prez. Another nixonian would be too much to bear.

Go ahead, RUIN my day. On one of my rare occasions I will admit that you make (rare) sense. People seem to conveniently forget that the Nixon White House is the only one buchanan successfully served in. As much as it hurts them, Reagan fired pat.

And what did we get from the Nixon (buchanan) Whitehouse? The EPA, hiring quota's, kissie face with China, etc, etc.

"we were attacked because of our uncritical support of the Likud regime of Ariel Sharon"

BS

Bin Laden didn't even mention our support for Israel as a motivation until long after the attack and he only did it because he knew that it would get him more support from "the Arab street".

He attacked us because of wounded pride. He expected to be called upon to defend Saudi Arabia against Saddam Hussein before Gulf War I. He saw himself as the hero in the fight against the Soviets in Afghanistan and thought that the Saudis would of course want him to protect them. When the Saudis chose the US instead, it hurt his widdle feelings and like a spoiled three year old, he lashed out by killing almost 3,000 of our citizens.

By the way...my respect to you. Most folks don't seem to understand that you serve just as much as your husband; the only difference is in the uniform and deployments.

From the same thread Sinkspur says:

"I don't like Pat's politics, but I got tired of Scarborough's softness on Kerry."

It sounds like you have a problem...

Well said. If I may. I'll just add that the US, as a free and individual-liberty oriented nation, has attained a status of power and economy in the world which is unmatched by any in history. The Muslim world from whence OBL springs claims to have the favor of Allah, but they are as backward and as dirt-poor as they were 500 years ago.

We, the "great Satan" are the world's one superpower...they, with all their "favor of Allah" are as nothing. The OBL's of the world cannot allow this contradiction to exist. Sooner or later, their people will begin to notice that the proclamations of their mullahs and warlords are bunk, much as those of the communists were. To prevent this, and their loss of power (to be followed by their heads, if history is any guide), they must attack, and attack again.

I hope he's in for a while and you both get some much needed time together. Home coming was always the best part of a deployment.

Exactly my boyo, -- so why are you still giving uncritical support to such a party? Have you no honor?

The least you could do is to speak out a bit like Pat does..
-- After all, reasoned dissent ~is~ part of the American way..

I don't. I'm very critical of the Republican party, which I am not a member of, in a constructive way. It's just that folks have to waste far too much valuable time fending off those who are fighting for Kerry and the left.

"What a self-serving a-hole!"

My thoughts exactly. Pat should stick to discusssing the lack of BLTs in Iraq and save the bookselling until after the eleciton.

Pat Buchanan
" Every American, whatever his or her sexual orientation, is entitled to the same constitutional rights. Hatred of, or derision for, men and women for an orientation they did not choose is wrong. Violence against these individuals must be condemned and punished; and everyone's contributions to our country and society appreciated."

Isn't that from his pandering during the last election?

It was amazing how he through out all of his previous self proclaimed beliefs and was willing to embrace anyone who would vote for him: gay, labor, marxist, pro-choice, nazi (the only candidate endorsed by them and with a link to his website).
