John Kerry of the National Office of the VVAW, spoke at the YMCA, Philadelphia, on June 14, 1971. In this talk he stated that HO CHI MINH is the GEORGE WASHINGTON of Vietnam.

If you go straight to Kerry's VVAW comments, you can hang him with his own words! Concentrate on his treasonous actions after the war, and you get rid of a great deal of the factual controversies. The second Swift Boat ad starts to do this.

...which is exactly why the Kerry campaign started trying to tie this around GWB's neck. Questioning Kerry's war record simply got the ball rolling. Kerry hopes to divert attention and steer the media into the "blame Bush" direction. It will never work and the reason why is so simple.

The media that made Kerry an anti-war hero when he testified before Congress, ran his mouth at rallies with Jane Fonda and threw medals away is a little different now. While the "mainstream media" may not agree with Iraq they know most Americans agree with the war on terror and most of the fighting in that war is being done by members of America's Armed Forces. But, more importantly, less people get their news from the mainstream media than they did before. ABC, CBS and NBC ran the show then along with the NY Times and the Washington Post. Talk radio, the internet, cable news, etc. are aspects that didn't exist during the Vietnam Era. But they do now and that, of course, explains why the Swifties got traction in the first place. Kerry can ill-afford to be pictured as anti-military in any way, shape or form particularly since he's the one who's based everything on his own military service. It only strengthens his reputation as a flip-flopper who's on all sides of every issue.

As soon as more and more Americans see his statements regarding alleged atrocities in Vietnam-especially after hearing his recent rhetoric about veterans-he will be hard put to repair the damage. He was counting on the mainstream media ignoring this but the Swifties flat refused to go away. It will be difficult for the mainstream media to continue to carry his water exclusively without at least questioning some of this.

While there may be questions and discrepancies regarding Kerry's war record his after war record is not at all in doubt. He did what he did and he said what he said and now, finally, he's got to live with it and explain it. I assume that when the media finally starts calling on him to personally address all this he'll probably appear on Larry King Live knowing King is incapable of asking tough questions. Kerry knows it's a safe harbor. But Kerry's problem will be what Kerry's problem has always been: when he speaks off the cuff he screws up.

He'll do more harm than good. Count on it.

SImply outrageous. This man wants to be our President? Am I in the twilight zone, here? Our mainstream press is willing to help this man reach the Presidency? My gosh....kerry is dangerous.

We have got to make this known!

I just ended all conversation w/someone I have been friends w/for a couple of years over exactly that sort of name-calling. When he got personal w/me, I lost it.

They are all in deep denial. I took a risk and surfed DU yesterday. The amount of fantasy is only equaled by F'n himself.

After the election, no matter how large W's win, it will not change.

Beware, some of these guys served in peacetime and wrap themselves in the flag, first.

He's not the only one that wants to know. But something else I'd like to know.

Did anyone else get three purple hearts in less than 4 months and get out the way John F'n Kerry did (alive, that is)?

Finally speaking out........Yippppeeee!

Will the biased media report this?

Unlikely as they only report on McCain's pronouncements so they can also say.....Mccain was 'smeared by GOP attack machine in SC'

I think the vets are doing a great job of this. The medal controversy got them out in the public. I believe they were 'preparing the battlefield', so to speak. The second add had far more impact than it would coming out first. I see perhaps two more strong ones, kerry's pandering in paris with the VC and his trip back to Viet Nam. They are hitting very hard and directed blows.

Makes you really look forward to the next blow, doesn't it?

"Beware, some of these guys served in peacetime and wrap themselves in the flag, first."

I served in peace time Regular Army 1956 to 1959 and the
Army helped to mold me.
Without my Army Service, I could have turned into a drugged up hippie.

I believe the SwiftBoat Vets were willing to look the other way at Kerry being a Senator. But when the prospect of a President Kerry became a real possibility, they Swifties felt they mustn't be silent any longer.

Yes, I saw this. Wonderful! Too bad Senator Dole lacked the killer instinct in his own campaign. Seemingly, when he was accused of being a Nixon wannabe he always tempered his remarks. Not today.

Like a lot of folks from the Great Plains, Dole is very mild mannered and slow to anger, but when someone finally crosses the line and gets their dander up, it's "Katie bar the door". Election politicings is one thing, but this is way beyond that for veterans, especially combat veterans.

>The net result will be that while it was satisfying to see Dole dish it out, you can be sure that this is the last television show he will be asked to appear on and there will be a blackout of his remarks in the press. Dole is now persona non grata and goes on the media's blacklist.<

What do you want to bet Hannity's people are scrambling to get Senator Dole on H & C ASAP?

I'm buying Unfit For Command this week.

Good luck on getting a copy. Even on line orders are shipping in weeks, not days. I ordered mine on the 16th, and it hasn't shipped yet, but they are still saying delivery will be within a week from today. However the site (Amazon) says that orders put in today won't ship until at least the 1st of next month. I'd say sales have been "brisk", in the same sense that Hurricane Charley was a "brisk wind".

Has there been any outrage reported in liberal IA about Harkin's lies and distortions? Apparently, the state (with big union influence) is committed to even more liberalism this fall. As Bob Dole might have asked again, "Where's the outrage?"

Any bets on whether John McCain calls Bob Dole "dishonorable and disrespectful" for questioning John Kerry's purple hearts?

Not likely. Dole would punch him back to the Hanoi Hilton.
