Denver Schools Clarify Policy After Outcry Over Mexican Flag
NewsMax.com Wires Friday, Aug. 20, 2004
DENVER Criticism over a Mexican flag hung in a classroom has led school officials to create a policy that says the display of foreign banners must be temporary and related to what is being taught in class.
Officials at North High School, where the student population is 84 percent Hispanic, said they received complaints over a photograph in the Rocky Mountain News taken on Monday, the first day of school. Story Continues Below
The photo showed a Mexican flag displayed in a classroom next to a U.S. flag. Andrew Fox, who teaches English to Spanish-speaking pupils, said he wanted his Latino pupils to feel more welcome.
School superintendent Jerry Wartgow said some people complained there should never be any non-U.S. flags displayed in the schools.
"It's a school, for God's sake," said Wartgow. "That's where you study countries." Other people were upset that the American flag was hung improperly, with the stars on the wrong side.
In response to the complaints, school principal Darlene LeDoux removed the Mexican flag and another one displayed in the school's lobby next to a poster of the Statue of Liberty.
The News reported Friday that the new guidelines were still being written, but that they would protect the display of flags but require any such display to be related to the curriculum.
84%?
How much longer before Colorado is demographically Democrat I wonder?
Officials at North High School, where the student population is 84 percent Hispanic, That right there speaks volumes as to the future of our country.
The same thing is happening here in Vegas. We have to build 12 new schools, thanks to a 40% increase in the illegal population...median age, 26.
Amazing, they barely bother to hide their allegiance to foreign countries. Kerry and France comes to mind.
Yes, it says the future looks bright for the Democrats.
Of course the GOP should keep reaching out to Hispanics, blacks, Asians, etc, but the simple fact is that they must do better with white voters. And the sheer size of the influx makes it less likely that the GOP will make inroads with non-white newcomers and their children.

The "Global Community" is the NEA theme for this year. How to be citizens of the Global anything just isn't a priority with me..guess I'll have to head out to the indoctrination centers for reprogramming. :0)

You simply amaze me with your narrow focus. Who in the heck is keeping the OPEN BORDER POLICY????
Yes, our REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT!!!. He ran as a REPUBLICAN but you refuse to see the DEMOCRAT Party lines in his policies.
Why is this? We are being screwed, blued and tattooed by a man who says he is our REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT but he is acting more like a Kerry DEMOCRAT than Kerry probably would.
The HS I went to in south eastern Colorado was 85% Hispanic in the 70-80s. The majority were from families that had been here many generations.

Well they can just feel more welcomed by the US flag. These liberals are so stupid they don't know that these people left Mexico for a reason.
Yes, our REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT!!!
How right you are. Our Republican President is more concerned about securing Iraq's borders against infiltration from Iran than he is about our borders being overrun from Mexico.
Makes a person wander exactly which people are the ones in "Of the people, by the people and for the people"??? Certainly doesn't seem to be the American people...............
