Bush adviser quits after appearing in swift boat ad

ROANOKE, Virginia (CNN) -- A volunteer adviser has quit President Bush's re-election campaign after appearing in a veterans group's television commercial blasting Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry's involvement in the Vietnam-era antiwar movement.

A Bush campaign statement said it did not know that retired Air Force Col. Ken Cordier had appeared in an ad by Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. The Kerry campaign has accused the group of illegally working with the Bush campaign.

As a so-called 527 group, Swift Boat Veterans for Truth is barred from coordinating efforts with an election campaign.

Kerry's camp calls it a front for the Bush campaign and has urged the Federal Election Commission to cite the group, the Bush campaign and the Republican National Committee for violating federal election laws.

The 527 groups are named for the federal provision that makes such organizations tax exempt and allows them to accept unlimited donations.

Before his departure, Cordier -- who spent six years as a prisoner of war in North Vietnam -- was a member of the Bush-Cheney campaign's veterans' steering committee, campaign spokesman Steve Schmidt said in a written statement issued Saturday night.

I expect there will be silence about this from the Kerry camp, seeing how many of their people are interchangeable with Moveon.

No, you are wrong. The rules that apply to Republicans are not the same as the rules that apply to Democrats. The Kerry camp will whine to the media about this and the media will faithfully parrot their whinning.

Exactly! Its funny how CNN has been uninterested in that connection. Funny, not surprising.

Which network does Carvill work for again? ... and Begala? Didn't they also work for - not interested!

One of the things that made me flip was during their chastisement of him they note how he hated LBJ because of his role in not bombing the NVA led to longer more frequent torture. His hatred of LBJ suddenly means he's partisan. HEh. Yea, I can't imagine why he'd hold a grudge against LBJ sarcasm.

If they weren't unhinged, I would agree with you. However, I fully expect them to shriek this talking point regardless of the ramifications.

Let's see...

Cordier, a "volunteer co-ordinator", appears in a commercial about his experience in Vietnam, and it's SCANDALOUS!!! BUSH KNEW!!!!!

Sandy Berger, the "Foreign Policy Advisor and likely National Security Director for the Kerry administration, steals highly sensitive, top-secret documents from the national archive, and it's CRICKETS CHIRPING!! KERRY IS NOT INVOLVED!!!!

Nope, no media bias here...

Well, dammit, the swift vets had better call it quits right now. This is just proof positive that all 200+ of them are scumbags who are lying about John Kerry's record of heroism.

the Kerry camp has willing accomplices with the MSM. The irony of Kerry's corrupt organization goes unreported and they KNOW it.

That's why they constantly put his CFR speech about beheadings, rapes, etc., "in context," while neglecting the Meet The Press clip of the same period in which he admits his own participation in what HE characterized as war crimes.

Just as quickly, after Pantsgate, media descriptions of Sandy Berger went from Kerry's foreign policy adviser to simply an unpaid consultant to the Kerry campaign.

Kerry keeps calling attention to the new Swiftboat ad, which is devastating -- much more so than the first ad, in my opinion. Especially the clip of the former POW saying that Kerry was saying the things that POWs were tortured for refusing to say.
