notice the BREAK in the graphic... it is used to denote a LARGE area missing from the graphic so it can be shown on one page, ALSO the there are NO times posted in 5 through 9 like there are in 1 through 4 posing more questions than answers!!!

Well if they were going full speed, 20-30 knots depending on load on-board..to go a half a mile to one mile would take something like one and a half to three minutes...which in a firefight is a long time..elsewhere I heard kerrys boat hit its own wake and kerry slipped on the loose shells on the deck, causing him to bruise his arm...

It would be interesting to see how much ammo they used that day, say compared to other days.....there are monthly reports of ammo for the division on the kerry site, I would imaging there might be more detailed reports available..

Here is a pretty good narrative on another deadly ambush a month later....seems the firefight went on for some time and lots of casualties...gives one an idea of what the men were up against in those rivers..

I noticed that too, and was about to point it out if no one else did. Given that this graphic isn't likely to be exactly to scale anyway, the fact that the Post had to put in a "break" signifier indicates that there was a HUGE separation between Kerry's boat and the others -- the Post apparently knows that Kerry's boat was one hell of a long way away, and that it couldn't get away with a graphic that made it look as if he was within shouting distance of the others, so instead of coming out and saying so, they hoped to gloss it over with the "break" in the image and hoped that few people would grasp what it meant.
