IS ALAN KEYES MAKING SENSE?
Rev. Peterson: Reparations Is A Liberal Idea; Bad For Blacks
Los Angeles- Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, founder and President of BOND, the Brotherhood Organization of A New Destiny, and leader of the Stop Reparations Now movement has come out against Illinois Senate Republican candidate Alan Keyes idea of a form of reparations. Keyes supports exempting American descendants of African slaves from paying federal taxes.
Rev. Peterson said, I know Alan Keyes, hes a good man, but he is wrong on this issue. The last thing black Americans need in this day and age is more entitlements. Did Alan Keyes get reparations to help him get to his current position?
Keyes, 53, is a former US Ambassador. He sought the Republican presidential nomination in 1996 and 2000. At a luncheon at the City Club of Chicago on Wednesday, Keyes defended his controversial views, and shot back at his critics. Keyes reportedly said he will not budge from his belief that descendants of slaves should be exempted from income taxes to help heal the wounds of past discrimination and segregation. He called his plan a tax break, something Republicans and my conservative brethren dont object to when applied to a wealthy corporation.
Rev. Peterson said, Money wont heal the wounds of past discrimination, but forgiveness will. Alan Keyes was selected to represent the Republican Party in this race; yet, he has taken a radical liberal position. Keyes has a responsibility to uphold conservative ideas and principles. Blacks Americans need to hear these positions boldly articulated by conservative black candidates. It is disappointing that he [Keyes] is blowing this opportunity. Im asking him to rethink his position.
Rev. Peterson believes that Republicans can make inroads into the black community only if they hold fast to traditionally conservative ideas. He says, We need to encourage men to be more responsible; commit to marriage; become independent of leaders; encourage real racial reconciliation; repudiate black culture; embrace work and entrepreneurship; and most of all forgive--the key to transforming the black community. These are the things that will help blacks, not reparations.

>>>Is Alan Keyes Making Sense?
No.
Any debt owed in reparations has been repaid many times over in the form of generations of welfare.
Tread lightly.
Just how much does Keyes owe the IRS?
Does anyone have any poll numbers from the Illinois senate race?
I'm sure that you didn't mean to imply that every black American has been on welfare, but just to be sure you should probably clarify yourself.
Quite frankly, anybody who wants to preserve the Senate seat for the Republicans should vote for Keyes.
He is still mostly a conservative, with some very conservative leanings. His odd ideas here and there make him unique, but when push comes to shove, I bet he'll be voting with most of the Republicans on the legislation that matters.
Obama, on the other hand, will systematically vote Democrat/liberal every chance he gets.
If you're concerned about Keyes odd ideas, they are just odd, not policy making. After he is elected, during the next election cycle when his term is up, make him work for the renomination. But keep Obama out of the senate.
I like you am an admirer of Keyes and was devestated when MSNBC took his show off the air. What Keyes is proposing here is ludicrous and detrimental to blacks.
I'm not in support of this either. But I agree with the good reverend...Alan Keyes is a good man.
And he is certainly light years better than Barrack Obama for the U.S. Senate.
I disagree with President Bush on a number of issues, but he is also a good man, and there can be no doubt that his reelection is vital to the future of the United States.
Same goes for Keyes vs. Obama.
Go Alan Go!
Not every person on welfare is black, nor has every black person been on welfare.
Most of may ancestors came to America post-slavery, so can I get my contribuiton to the reparations pro-rated to reflect that?
"Any debt owed in reparations has been repaid many times over in the form of generations of welfare."
Not to mention the price we paid represented by the 100 of thousands of some of our grandfathers who are buried in battle fields in the south such as Vicsburg and other places.
My great-grandfather fought, but thankfully survived.
Iowa contributed more men per capita than any other state.
Rev. Peterson said, Money wont heal the wounds of past discrimination, but forgiveness will."
your family was then lucky.
two of my progenitors died on missionary ridge in defense of freedom for blacks. I stood over their plaques on the very spots where they bled and died, as a young man.
one of the reasons I don't care for the concept of reparations that peterson rejects as well.
"JimRob nuked a similar post about an hour ago."
Must not have any faith in the message being put forth by Keyes. Reparations is what the voters of Illinois want & Keyes is willing to not only talk about them - he will give it to Illinois.
Hmmm.... so that means ... Jim Rob doesn't want anything negative about Alan Keyes posted? I doubt it ...
I am an avid Keyes supporter, but when it comes to reparations one has to take a stand and I am in agreement with Peterson. Sad to hear that Keyes support them.
Tuesday, the Tribune confirmed that Keyes has satisfied a Maryland income tax debt ....On Aug. 6, Keyes sent the state a certified check for $152 and explained that the tax debt was fulfilled and the unpaid amount resulted from erroneous accounting by the Maryland Department of Revenue.

Sorry everyone..keyes is cannon fodder..big media has made obama the greatest thing since sliced bread..illinois is a lost cause for the gop..with the inbred corrupt gov who magically stopped death penalty for the sake of getting a standing ovation on the oprah show..illinois gop is more or less a basket case...
"Keyes has a responsibility to uphold conservative ideas and principles."
Actually, Keyes has a responsibility to follow his concience, not someone else's. If that's what he truly believes, that's his right. I don't think that reparations are a good idea, either, but conservatives shouldn't be forming their own version of political correctness.
