She's got a big mouth on her so I fail to see her problem with a huge pastrami sandwich. Or a tube steak for that matter.
Poor dear should have come to Iowa for her meat...
This from a country that eats cold squid sandwiches??
She's right about the apples, but the rest of her opinion is nonsense.
I don't think anyone from the UK should be bad mouthing American food. The British have apparently never seen a single recipe book because their food is generally awful.
I will give the Brits credit for some very good beer. Of course if you drink it warm it has to be good to start with. It's still much better cold though.
What's that gunk that brits put on their toast. I've heard it tastes like wallpaper paste.
Speaking as an Aussie - and hence a resident of a country that is culturally pervaded by both US and UK culture, I would just point out that while we do have occasional American restaurants here, I've never encountered a British one.
On the other hand, we do have a lot of English style pubs.
I honestly think these two facts reflect the reality here. Whatever good food the British had - and they did have some nice ideas - has been so rapidly incorporated into Australian food (and I suspect American as well) that nobody really thinks of it as British anymore.
The same has occurred with a lot (not all) of the best American dishes, meaning the only stuff that most people see as explicitly American is the stuff that nobody wants to claim for their own - ie, McDonalds (-8
British beer is worth drinking, so the English style pubs do well enough.
Also, as an Aussie, I feel I must point out that vegemite is better than marmite - but I confess to saying that out of patriotism and nothing else. Having been forced to consume massive amounts of vegemite while at boarding school as a boy, followed by nearly as massive amounts while in the RAN, I can no longer stand to look at more than the tiniest amounts.
If a 6-inch sandwich is bigger than her head I think I understand her problem
She should have tried the Shepards Pie at the Cheesecake Factory! YUM!!!!
My only complaint about the CF is that if you don't go there knowing what you're in the mood for, you're in some serious trouble! They've got about 947 different items on the menu!
Hey, here's an idea for a thread... "What's your favorite menu item at The Cheesecake Factory!" (and no, cheesecake is NOT a correct answer!)
Here's mine... While I was on Atkins (and I plan to go back on this week), I found an herb encrusted salmon filet, with a side of brocolli (subbed for the wonderful potatos!). But I think that my favorite item is their parmesan cheese encrusted chicken breast!

She's an idiot. Obviously some foreigners are desperate now for reasons to hate America when you start slamming its cuisine. Hubby and I just had a couple of Angus T-bones the other day--they were yummy. Not that she would ever get her "delicate, pwescious, widdle" fingers dirty, but if she's tasted any of the BBQ listed on that thread recently, she's out of her mind if she thinks that isn't great cuisine. What I love about living in the states is the variety of food. So many cultures, some specific to our country(southern/soul food, wide variety of BBQ, etc). It is a treat if you love food to travel this country by car since you get a real flavor each place you go. Americans wouldn't be so "fat" if our food wasn't so good!
How about a chip buttie?
That explains it . . . she's inherited a lack of class from Mum there. Sheesh, don't y'all have any non-embarrassing royals to trot out? ;)
