You need to read my post again.
Thank you Tonk. I miss my brother a lot more as I read this stuff. I didn't think anyone could offend my sense more than Clinton had. Well....Kerry has managed to top that!
"-There is no question that John Kerry earned his decorations and that he put his life at risk in the service of his country. There is no doubt in my mind, moreover, that he has the intelligence to serve as president. But there is also no doubt in my mind that his anti-war activities while our troops were still fighting, dying and being tortured in filthy Vietnam prisons were despicable.
For that reason, even aside from his anti-defense voting record in the Senate, he is one ex-shipmate that I could never support as commander-in-chief of the armed forces-"
That says it all!
Now he really needs his ass kicked! Olongapo is a favorite port of many sailors and Marines who served in the Pacific. He knows no level of decency.
Ah, there are so many rumors about Kerry. For example, Kerry met Teresa Heinz a year before her husband John Heinz died in a airplane accident involving a helicopter. But was it an accident? There is a story about a tall "geeky" looking guy who was near the accident. Who was carrying a box with an antenna connected to it. The box was reported to have a big red button with the words "Press to make helicopter run into Heinz plane" on it. After the accident the tall fellow said something, possibly in French then left on a Harley with a surfboard strapped to it. Or maybe it was a snow board. Or some kind of windsurfing board. Anyway, where was Kerry the day Heinz died? Nobody seems to know. The witnesses chased the tall man but they were frightened when he started throwing things at them. What were those things? Purple hearts.
John Kerry, international man of mystery. Super spy. Another rumor was that Kerry was on the grassy knoll in Dallas. Did Kerry think there could only be one JFK? Who knows? It's all secret.
Yep, Kerry is a super duper spy. I shouldn't post this but it's only fair that the truth get out about Kerry.
Go for it Tonk...No, despite Chris Matthews baiting..Bush cannot attack Kerry on things he has no personal knowledge of 30 years ago but those who were there can tell the truth and fire away!
Kerry is Unfit for Command..er in Chief!
I was home ported in Subic (Olongapo) for 2 years on a submarine in 62-64. Lot's of crap in the river but never saw a body. I never saw any starving mothers and babies. That is crap. Also, very few officers ever when into town.
Yeah, you're right. You probably shouldn't have posted that. :)
Spoken like any brother in arms, who considers anybody putting on the uniform and serving in Viet Nam as having "put his life at risk for his country", and, having been decorated and awarded the purple heart, he MUST HAVE "earned his decorations". Unfortunately he is responding to the facts as they were presented to him. The rest of his comments to Kerry's character, which he actually witnessed, are much more telling.

5. The trip to Danang GRIDLEY went into Danang for briefings before going to Northern SAR. This section is so full of hyperbole that the urge to giggle is almost uncontrollable. The panic and pressure onboard GRIDLEY, strapping on a .45, wondering if I would have to use it, B-52s howling overhead. A B-52 over Danang would have been so high that only contrails would have been visible, cloud cover permitting. David Simons confirmed my recollection that during our brief stay in Danang Harbor, the sky was overcast to the point of being ominous.
More seriously, no one can remember John Kerry going ashore. I was part of the shore party that went to Monkey Mountain. We were taken in a screened in truck (to protect against grenades being tossed in) and made to unload our .45s. The driver said that he did not want us newbies to shoot anyone by accident.
Neither Commander Kelly nor LCDR Rueckert (Kerrys immediate boss) can recall approving a trip ashore for Ensign Kerry. The author uses remarks of David Simons IC2 as a lead in to the Danang section. I spoke to David and he has no personal knowledge of Kerry going ashore at all. He did talk to a researcher and made some generic remarks about Danang but had never discussed Danang with Kerry. He recalls arguing with the researcher because he tried to put the words cowboy in his mouth, which ended up in the book.
There is no mystery about the gruesome site of a pile of dead VC. We saw no sign of anything like this. However, our escort to Monkey Mountain did tell us how the VC bodies were stacked up on the LZs after the TET Offensive, which had been several months before. Ensign Kerry would have been told this story by members of the shore party.
If, indeed, he got to the pier, because he was in charge of the motor whaleboat, it certainly would not have been within his purview to wander Danang, eating dog meat and drinking beer in a bar (under arms). It also seems amazing that he had all these observations on Vietnam in such a brief visit.
See post 14!
So, if there is one thing worse than somebody claiming to be a Viet Nam vet (who never served), I would think it is a Viet Nam vet who not only makes up what others did (as a whistle-blower) to raise his image, but makes up his own exploits for self-grandizement, and then publically calls other vets liars for challenging him.
It's just one huge lie after another.
Ping - Everyone needs to read and pass on
Matthews was shameful!
I only read the thread about it..I just cannot watch anymore unless I am alerted to because of a guest and a "live" thread.
ROFL!
This one's not clear-cut to me. Deck space is pretty limited on a Leahy-class DLG to allow for a helo landing. I don't remember ever having a helo land on the one I was on. We did have two boats aboard - the Captain's gig and the motor whaleboat. I could be wrong on this but I'd expect that any 'shuttling' done with the motor whaleboat would have been with a senior boatswain's mate in charge of the boat rather than an ensign.
Later on page 87 Kerry talks about Olongapo in the Philippines. He talks about bloated corpses floating in the river and starving women with babies dying of malnutrition.
No freaking way. That's ridiculous.
The $hi+ River may have smelled like it, but corpses??? Give me a break.
