I would wait for the results of the DNA tests as mentioned by nopardons -- that seems the most accurate way of specifying descent from Israelites. however, I think the entire search for the "lost" tribes is a ton of nonsense with a lot of nationalistic, racial and religious ego along with myth involved.

Just as, if you look at bloodlines, go back a couple of millenia and most folks on earth will be related some way or the other. Abraham dates from c.2000 B.C. -- so there is a good chance that nearly everyone in the middle east and a lot of folks (very scientific
Does it matter from a religious point of view? NO.

Can it be scientifically studied? No. The northern kingdom seems to have lacked any form of cohesion unlike the Jews who have a strong cohesion and hence have survived as a community over the millenia. To ask about the northern kingdom is like asking what happened to the Hivites or the Moabites or the Ammonites.

Where the heck did those Moabites go?..lol

By Northern KIngdom....do you mean Israel as opposed to Judea to the South.

that is sort of the way I recall it from sunday school way back in the last century

if so are today's Jews likely descended from Judea?

and while we are at it...what do you think of the Khazars later on 7 centuries after the Diaspora? Israel apparently takes it seriously...they have done lots of research and the question seems to be how much of the classes below the gentry converted. I think that is the only mass conversion to Judaism I know of since Jews by nature don't really proselytize...except maybe these new off Kabblaists and Madonnaists.

Hosea 1:10 Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people, there it shall be said unto them, Ye are the sons of the living God.

11 Then shall the children of Judah and the children of Israel be gathered together, and appoint themselves one head, and they shall come up out of the land: for great shall be the day of Jezreel.
