Child killer Joel Steinberg has been living in a Times Square hotel ever since the sadistic sicko's big mouth got him kicked out of a Harlem halfway house, The Post has learned.
The camera-shy Steinberg only rarely emerges from his $110-per-night room at the Hotel Carter on West 43rd Street, where he has been holed up for nearly two weeks.
But Steinberg, 63, left the hotel yesterday morning to visit his parole officer.
During the 10-block walk, he chatted up a photographer who snapped his picture, saying the media has for years inaccurately and unfairly reported his brutal killing of his 6-year-old, illegally adopted daughter, Lisa, in 1987.
He also said his parole officer has been telling him to keep a low public profile, arguing that the more often that Steinberg is recognized on the streets of New York, the more likely it will be that he will be harassed or worse.
The night before, on Tuesday, Steinberg snarled at another shutterbug who took his photo as the fiend left the West 19th Street offices of the Fortune Society, a group that helps ex-convicts re-enter society.
After his June 30 release from prison, where he served more than 16 years in prison for killing Lisa, Steinberg lived for about five weeks at the Fortune Academy on West 140th Street, a residence for ex-cons.
His presence at the halfway house drew the wrath of neighbors who objected to the pariah living in their midst. Steinberg kept a low profile for most of his stay there, and was leery of photographers when he stepped outside in a secluded area of the property to smoke.
