Shouldn't you defend your country first?

If that guy actually liked the Vietnamese, try this one on him:

What Kerry Really Did in Vietnam

It's from a left-wing source attacking Kerry for war crimes. It's almost as rough on Kerry as Unfit for Duty...

Actually I've read quite a few like-minded sentiments of the VC, and the N. Viet Regular Army.

It always appeared to me...that there was some respect for them. They fought hard, under miserable conditions..and died alot.

Didn't mean they tried to make friends with them...

FWIW-

I do not believe you. I am a Vietnam vet and we never invaded north Vietnam. The north invaded the south. And killed, maimed and slaughtered anyone just like their left-wing democrat friends in the USSR and other commie countries.

That vet is mistaken. The NVA and Viet Cong invaded South Vietnam. They weren't "defending thier country", they were invading a soveriegn nation.

The US bombed North Vietnam in order to stop the invasion.

what's up quoted a VN vet as saying: "Those North Viet Namese were defending their country just like you and I would if some bastards invaded us."

One of the great political difficulties of the VietNam War was that the South Vietnamese government was far from a stellar example of republican democracy in action. I have read that the VN President's wife "owned" an extremely high percentage of the fertile land in South VietNam and I recall distinctly that a Vietnamese acquaintance described the fact that there was little need to vote in the Presidential election because there was only one candidate on the ballot.

It is very difficult to help people like the Vietnamese of that time or the Iraqis of this time when they have no culture of democratic rule. Many such people will have been taught that there is little to be gained and much to be lost by challenging others for political power. Such people will simply attempt to recognize who has the power and do what they must not to become their enemies.

One small problem. The NVA were invading South Vietnam. Initially, there was the pretense that the Viet Cong (South Vietnamese Communists) were engaged in a civil war. The North Vietnames were not defending their country. They wanted to take the South over, the same way North Korea tried to take over South Korea. They weren't successful but Ho Chi Minh was.

I agree with the sentiment - and I also respect kerry for the courage of his convictions by going to vietnam - even though his convictions were selfish and not patriotic.

But that being said, even though I respected the North Vietamese soldier - I still KILLED him since he was my enemy!

Kerry can thank the goodness of most american military personnel that we, so far, only consider him a selfish socialist coward.

How interesting. We guess it would follow then that those heroic Vietnamese who fought against the communists were not defending their country.

The communists were ruthless in taking over the countryside and conscripting soldiers involuntarily to their objectives. The people in the country were terrified of the communists. If they did not provide rice, fish, supplies etc. they would be tortured as subversives. The Vietnamese people could not choose sides and stay out of the war, they were forced to do the bidding of the most ruthless.

Your so-called online vet is a fraud, an idiot or both.
