Damn. This is definitely the biggest hit the Swifties have taken so far. More than enough to get the rest of the MSM to continue to ignore the story. Interesting that the WP went to lengths to get Thurlow's records, but fail to mention that Kerry won't release the rest of his.

Thurlow said he would consider his award "fraudulent" if coming under enemy fire was the basis for it. "I am here to state that we weren't under fire," he said. He speculated that Kerry could have been the source of at least some of the language used in the citation.
Is this the beginning of his confession....is he trying to say neither one of them deserved the medal?

The consensus with the media will be that the book is innacurate and can't be trusted. If one sattement is off why bother following uo with anything else.

I would take this one with a grain of salt, too. You remember the Boston Globe invented a story about one of the Swift Boat vets recanting his story. The vet said the same day that the news story was a lie, and it was later found out that the story was fabricated. I wouldn't put anything past the main stream media. Again, we were all taken in under the pretense that these people are actually reporting the news.

I suspect that when the underwater bomb hit the one boat all sorts of things were flying thru the air. No doubt all the gunners on the boats were strafing the shore on both sides.

I heard this described by one of the swift vets for truth.

I KNEW this was going to happen!!!!

All it takes is one, and their credibility is shot. Of course with EFnK, he can lie all day long and lose no credibility with the MSM.

Two other Swift boat skippers who were direct participants in the March 13, 1969, mine explosion on the Bay Hap, Jack Chenoweth and Richard Pees, have said they do not remember coming under "enemy fire." A fourth commander, Don Droz, who was one of Kerry's closest friends in Vietnam, was killed in action a month later.

Every living skipper who was on the mission - except Kerry - says that there was no "enemy fire".

This sort of thing still keeps the story alive. Kerry does not want this thing to keep being debated in the media. At some point he is going to have to go on Meet the Press or some other Sunday news show and answer the questions. It never helps a candidate to be off topic defending himself against charges. It's a loser for Kerry no matter what.

Thurlow has said he is willing to give up his medal if given under false pretenses.

Is Kerry willing to do the same?

For much of the episode, Kerry was not in a position to know firsthand what was happening on Thurlow's boat, as Kerry's boat had sped down the river after the mine exploded under another boat. He later returned to provide assistance to the stricken boat.

The Swifties say that Kerry fled down the river.

Of course, all us military types know how accurate military records tend to be, especially in award write-ups /sarcasm.

Unfit for Command: Swift Boat Veterans Speak Out Against John Kerry

Thurlow said in a statement that he did not put in a report about the incident. He thought Kerry might have done it. He thought he got the medal for lifesaving efforts with the sailors in the water and for trying to save the boat and comfort the victims.

If he did not claim there was enemy fire, how can he have lied?
