DES MOINES, Iowa Jim Rassmann, who credits John Kerry with saving his life while under fire in Vietnam, is countering new commercials challenging the Democratic nominee's war record.
Rassmann, a former Special Forces officer, is in Iowa today. It's his first visit to the state since January when he was reunited with Kerry after more than 30 years.
His visit, which started in Cedar Rapids this morning, comes as another group of Vietnam veterans airs T-V ads accusing Kerry of fabricating his war record.
Rassmann says he has little patience for it and it's starting to be "very irritating."
He was on Kerry's boat before he wasn't.
There are conflicting reports (taken from Kerry's own trumped up accounts of history such as Doug Brinkley book) that he was on the same boat or at other times listed as on the boat following Kerry's.
Jim Rassmann is a liar -- just like Kerry.
I hope he gets "irritated" enough to confess that he's been lying for 35 years.
First, thank you for your service. I did not serve, missed the draft by months, and entered college in the fall of 1973.
I agree that making fun of the situation shows a certain sensibility. But, the only poster I have control over is me, and I don't concern myself with the overall impression made by FR.
Of this statement: The Swiftvets are either very brave or very dumb.
I vote "very very very brave" because the RATs have published e-mails, phone numbers, false statements, lies, and slandered these warriors.
On the other hand, the tactics of the RATs are beginning to wear thin with the public. They are dishonoring men that Kerry has previously dishonored. It doesn't sit well with the public.
Also, people of this generation are telling their children and grandchildren how Kerry called them "baby killers" and that they "commited atrosities". That also doesn't sit well with their family members and their friends.
What can I say? He's begging for it!
Jim Rassmann has sand in his vagina!
I agree that they are very brave and that this will backfire on the left.
I think it's delightful that they are so astonished and angered by a difference of opinion, particularly after they have attempted to libel or slander someone else.
PS if Kerry admitted in the 70s that he committed atrocities, why wasn't he charged?
No ... you're making me very very angry indeed.
You're blocking my chance for fame and fortune!
In its original 1/04 press release regarding the oh-so-touching reunification of JFnK and Rassman, the Kerry campaign said Rassmann was in the "in a boat behind Kerry's when both were ambushed by exploding land mines and enemy fire coming from the shore."
In Rassmann's recent WSJ whine, he says "The second blast blew me off John's swift boat, PCF-94, throwing me into the river."
Another Christmas eve in Cambodia type moment.
This is the same "lifelong Republican" who turned up on John Kerry's porch a week or so before the Iowa Caucus, probably thinking that he'd show his appreciation fo Kerry for fishing him out of the drink 30-plus years ago by spending a few days as a prop for photos, keep Kerry's campaign alive a few days or weeks by helping him be competitive in Iowa, then slink back into obscurity.
Now he's being shoved out there literally as the lone "I served with John Kerry" voice to counter the Swifties.
Not quite what you signed on for there, eh Mr. Rassmann?
Boxes, a million boxes!
Agree.
Rassman spent the critical part of the incident underwater, he was not really in position to see enemy "fire."
He was special forces, and spent exactly one day with John Effing Kerry ... I give Jim a pass, but take what the Swift Vets hav to say very, very seriously.
But how much has Kerry invested in him $$$$$$$$$
Kerry had to know some were going to question his version so he paid for several backups. What he did not count on is the other 240+ that were in the same area at the same time!
What a weak chinned blubberpuss!
LOL!!
Sounds like the fat boy is getting a little 'snippy'.....hehehehheeh.
