Defense To Cross-Examine Frey Wednesday

UPDATED: 7:01 pm PDT August 17, 2004
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. -- After hours of wiretapped calls between Scott Peterson and his mistress, the former fertilizer salesman finally appears to become aware he is being taped, according to recordings played for jurors Tuesday at the double-murder trial.
It was the fifth day jurors listened to some of the more than 300 recorded calls between Peterson and his lover, Amber Frey, as authorities searched for his pregnant wife, Laci, between late December 2002 and February 2003. Authorities hope to show jurors the affair was Peterson's motive for killing his wife and fetus.
Frey has testified that she called police after discovering her lover was not only married, but suspected in the disappearance of his wife. At the request of police, she began recording Peterson's calls.
In a call Feb. 7, 2003, Peterson tells Frey he will be spending the night in Sacramento and says he will call her the next day from a pay phone.......
Amber Frey expected to undergo cross-examination today
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. The prosecution's star witness in the Peterson murder trial is scheduled to be on the witness stand this morning.
Defense attorney Mark Geragos is expected to question Amber Frey about the hundreds of recorded calls between her and Scott Peterson.
The judge has set some ground rules on what Geragos can ask Frey.
After a closed-door session yesterday, Judge Alfred Delucchi (duh-LOO'-key) ruled that the defense can NOT question Frey about relationships she had before or after meeting Peterson unless they were discussed during the taped calls.......

Previewing Amber Frey's cross-examination
I fear that she is going to go through an old-fashioned smear job
By Dan Abrams
Updated: 6:58 p.m. ET Aug. 16, 2004As we anticipate the cross-examination of Amber Frey by Scott Petersons attorney (this could happen as early as Tuesday) let me tell you about the issues that could potentially be brought up that I dont care about.
I dont care about:
Ambers motive for making the tapes. Whether or not she is vindictive or is she is scorned. Her sexual past, Or her maternal choices for her child. None of these concerns go to the only relevant question: Was what we heard on the tapes between her and Peterson authentic?
What we heard was an almost pathologically-dishonest Scott Peterson attempting to keep his relationship with Frey afloat, even after Laci disappeared.
The fact that she did not tell him she was working with the police is irrelevant. Petersons refusal to answer any specific possibility incriminating questions has to make you wonder whether he even suspected the police were already listening in........

August 18, 2004 -- REDWOOD CITY, Calif. Slimy wife-slay suspect Scott Peterson phoned his mistress the day after she publicly revealed their steamy affair to praise her for being "incredibly brave" and to say her tearful admission made him so upset, he vomited.
The bizarre new details of the pair's illicit relationship revealed in court yesterday as part of hours of phone-tape testimony also included Peterson cryptically telling suspicious lover Amber Frey that she already knew the answers to crucial questions about his guilt or innocence.
After weeks of Frey badgering Peterson in which she blasted him as a "pathological liar" and outright admitted she thought he could have killed his pregnant wife, Laci the philandering fertilizer salesman replies to his lover's demand for answers by saying:
"I wish I could tell you, but you've . . . guessed the answers to all of [your questions]." ..........

Peterson fawned over Freys daughter
Peterson fawned over Freys daughter
By Michelle Durand, Daily Journal Staff
As the weeks his unborn son went missing grew into months, Scott Peterson never wanted to speak about his child but was continually interested in the well-being of his mistress toddler daughter, according to taped phone calls played at his trial yesterday.
In late January and early February 2003 just weeks before Laci Peterson was scheduled to deliver the couples son, Conner Peterson called Amber Freys interaction with her daughter sweet. He fawned over the image of the nearly 2-year-old girl wearing pigtails and speaking in full sentences. He even mailed the girl some books and a purse for her birthday.
For Ambers little one, Happy Birthday, read an enclosed card from Peterson.
He also sent Frey a necklace, silver box and wildflower seeds for her birthday on Feb. 10 also the same day his unborn son was due to be born. ...........

Peterson Praises Frey for Disclosing Affair
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (Reuters) - Scott Peterson praised girlfriend Amber Frey for telling the press they had had an affair in tapes of their phone conversations played on Tuesday in Peterson's trial for the murder of his wife and unborn child.
"It's incredibly brave. It just shows what amazing character you have," Peterson told her on Jan. 25, 2003, a day after she confirmed their relationship in a police press conference.
He said he listened to her on radio while driving in his car and that he got sick when she began to cry.
"I pulled over and threw up when you cried," Peterson said.
Prosecution witnesses have testified that Peterson showed little emotion when his wife disappeared and that he got more upset when he burned chicken at a family barbecue.
The 31-year-old fertilizer salesman used champagne and strawberries to seduce Frey into an affair a month before his pregnant wife Laci Peterson went missing on Dec. 24, 2002. ..........

Amber Frey Sets Hook-Will Peterson Wiggle Off USA
Amber Frey Sets Hook-Will Peterson Wiggle Off USA
NNA Advisory News (USA)-- The anticipated cross-examination of Amber Frey has experts differing as to the approach Mark Geragos should use. Some have suggested that few if any questions will be posed because Frey has been a spectacular witness. Others snicker and suggest that the Gloria Allred promotional machine will have to give pause when Amber takes the stand. The attorney/promoter has performed brilliantly but the spin stops when Frey stands alone and testifies.
At the risk of being tar and feathered, here are some thoughts for us to mull over regardless of the media trial launched months ago claiming Petersons guilt. This is easily a tit for a tat scenario spun by the prosecution and the defense will soon echo these sentiments with resolve. The Amber tapes were designed to trap a murder by way of confession, character assassination, and culmination of circumstantial words or phrases that have multiple interpretations by any number of experts. The questions asked of Peterson by Frey would help spin the story because the answers hold no definitive meaning. What if Mark Geragos understands that this case is weak at best. I think this is a given. It is true, Allred and Court TV have been successful at convincing America that these tapes are real evidence without explanation. The only ones that really count are 11 people in that courtroom. ........

REDWOOD CITY -- On the same days Scott Peterson ordered TV pornography channels, he tenderly assured his girlfriend he cared for her -- and that he loved his missing, pregnant wife, according to telephone conversations she secretly taped.
Peterson maintained that he had nothing to do with Laci Peterson's disappearance, even when Amber Frey insisted, "All fingers point to you."
And, he vowed to volunteer in future search efforts for other missing people. Calling him a "pathological liar," his irritated girlfriend openly mocked him.
"No one will think your behavior is innocent," Frey said in one of five recordings played Monday at her former lover's double-murder trial.
He could face the death penalty if convicted of murdering his wife, Laci, and their unborn son, Conner, on or just before Dec. 24, 2002. His attorneys say he was framed..........

Family, friends dish on Frey on national TV
Dean Hoffinger was waiting to talk on a national cable TV channel about his ex-girlfriend, Amber Frey, when his stomach started talking first. "I wish I hadn't had those onions," he said off-air at Fresno's KGPE, Channel 47, which provided a studio for the live interview Thursday on Court TV. "It's a little bit of nerves. It's a little bit of onions.
"Does anyone have a Rolaids?"
No one did. But neither a minor case of heartburn nor sweaty palms could keep Hoffinger, a Fresno events promoter, from his close-up on cable.
He didn't have anything startling to say on Court TV. But that didn't make any difference in the week the Amber Frey juggernaut hit the Scott Peterson murder trial in Redwood City.......

Amber Frey Expected to Undergo Cross-Examination Today
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Peterson can be heard sobbing throughout the call.
"You know I'm not a monster, Amber," he says before suggesting the pair meet at a friend's home in Lake Arrowhead in the mountains about 60 miles east of Los Angeles.
"We just need to see each other, Amber, at least for a couple of hours," he prods.
"You have to understand you're obviously being followed by the media and who knows who else," Frey says.
"Is there some way for us to see each other, Amber?" Peterson asks again.
"At this point, all I could see is it just damaging me even more," Frey says.
Peterson continues to tell Frey how much he wants to be with her.
"I just need to tell you how much I care about you ... And I desire"...........
PINGING......
PINGING......
PINGING......
I am so sick of hearing this Peterson trial that I am about ready to go out there and take care of him myself. I do guess that we are lucky in some ways though in that we have only one murder trial and on rape trial going on in the whole U.S.. What a country!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
While it wouldn't come close to my feelings of frustration at OJ Simpson's acquittal, I would certainly be very frustrated by an acquittal of Peterson. I have no real doubt that he is guilty.
And yet, the difference between the two cases is that Simpson was acquitted as a result of jury nullification - a runaway jury that chose to ignore irrefutable DNA proof and other incontrovertible evidence of his guilt.
Here, there might just might not be enough hard evidence to convict. Perhaps there is more to come, but I'd be curious to know how, and why, my fellow FReepers would vote at this point if they were on the jury.
For the time being my heart would scream "guilty" but I'm not sure my head would follow.
What I find amazing is that everyone is going on about how Petersen doesn't make a confession by phone. This guy is a pathological liar/con artist. He's going to confess? Give me a break.
Sociopaths like Peterson have no feelings of remorse or emotions in anything they do that fatally injures others. He simply couldn't care less about Lacy - all that matters is what Scott wants for the moment. Nothing else.
Might?
There isn't any, and it's [hard evidence] not needed.
Circumstantial is quite sufficient, if the jurors are not brain dead.
Guilty. Stick with your heart, and USE your head :)
The sociopath is not a victim of coincidence:
1. He didn't call Amber on the 24th
2. Bodies found where he fished
3. Last person to see Laci alive = Scott
Whether forensic or circumstantial, the evidence to convict should be hard - i.e., sufficient to remove all reasonable doubt.
Of the facts you've mentioned, the most damning by far is that the bodies were found near where he fished. For the jury to believe that is an innocent coincidence does stretch credulity.
On the other hand, there could be myriad explanations sufficient to create reasonable doubt for Scott not calling Amber on Christmas Eve. As for being the last person to see her alive, that is probably true for many, many husbands whose wives are murdered, but obviously does not make them guilty.
As for being the last person to see her alive, that is probably true for many, many husbands whose wives are murdered, but obviously does not make them guilty.
The percentage is staggering. High 90's. Most are murdered by the husband/boyfriend.
Who else had access and reason to murder her?
NO signs of break-in or struggle.
I have been sick, so I have watched this
thang every day. Amber nailed him in one
of the tapes: her tme line and the insuing events
read like a diary. But for her, (knowledge of her
when she went to the police) he would have likely
been
"Scott free."
For you, evidently.
Decisions ... decisions ... I just can't make up my mind ... he has such a cute smile, and he said he didn't do it.
Guilty Guilty Guilty
He still thinks he is getting away with it which still makes me suspect he has killed before
Hey ... one trial at a time. ;)
I will say that I get a kick out of the various talking head, TV lawyers, that support Scott Perterson.
I mean, they get so bent out of shape about "proof", that it's comedic.
It's a typical defense lawyer hangup.
If a defense lawyer had unlimited juror challenges, he/she would ensure that everyone of those selected had IQ's less than 50.
