It's merely my own personal opinion that attacking Senator Kerry *personally* for his actions while in uniform 3+ decades ago is a bit much. Why? We still condemn Benedict Arnold, and his treason was over 200 years ago.

"Normally, I'd agree that what Kerry did in Vietnam 35 years ago doesn't matter. But in this case, he's made his service 35 years ago the keystone of his campaign..." Your point is valid. I understand why you consider it right to challenge him on that service...but that's too personal for me. He fought. Case closed.
Now, when he came home and protested, that's open for attack. When he met with communists who were in power at the very time when our boys were dying on the battlefield, that's open for attack. When he joined an organization full of communists and led protests against our government, that's open for attack in my book.
Believe me, I don't expect many people to agree with my differentation on this issue.
But for me, it's what he did *after* his combat service that should be our focus of attack.

Me too. Wouldn't this contradict what the VVFT are saying? Not at all.
The only person claiming that they received hostile fire was kerry.
If this story turns out to be true, it would confirm that the others were correct (that there was none), he lied (when he said there was), and he knew he was lying to get his first PH awarded.

(Hillary! to the Rescue?)Good one. She has/had means, method and motive to wound Kerry's campaign.

Mu guess is that as soon as the Kerry camp becomes aware of the story about a release they will go into war-room mode and see if THEY can't spike it at the source--cockburn.
By going public too soon, this may never come to light.

It's merely my own personal opinion that attacking Senator Kerry *personally* for his actions while in uniform 3+ decades ago is a bit much. All of us make mistakes, and I am sure that Vietnam veterans have some 'secrets' they prefer to bury. But the degree to which Kerry aggrandized, and aggrandizes himself is stunning. It illustrates a deep character flaw that should be exposed. To their credit, the Swiftees had no inclination to expose it, until Kerry put in for CINC.

As far as I know this is nothing new, and Kerry is quoted in his own book tour of Duty about the first action...its just getting traction...

If there's somebody in the Kerry campaign who's a hardcore leftist who think's Kerry has sold out, and wants him out of the way for a more clearly leftist candidate (Hillary! to the Rescue?), I can see that person slipping a copy of Kerry's diaries to Cockburn. Maybe Hillary got her hands on the diary. The FBI files come in handy once again.

"[T]he fabled and distinguished chief of naval operations,Admiral Elmo Zumwalt, told me --30 years ago when he was still CNO [chief naval officer in Vietnam] that during his own command of U.S. naval forces in Vietnam, just prior to his anointment as CNO, young Kerry had created great problems for him and the other top brass,by killing so many non-combatant civilians and going after other non-military targets. "We had virtually to straitjacket him to keep him under control", the admiral said. Bad conscience bump.

In all fairness to Kerry, when Americans fired their weapons, Kerry considered that enemy fire.Yes, it depends on what the meaning of 'enemy' is.

Ok, ok, I confess. I did try to convince my buddies to invest in one of those old French hotels along the beach in Nha Trang. AND, I turned out to be right. There is even a water park and an amusement park across the street from where our compound is. Sadly, no one would go in with me.

Cow tipping news takes precedence over bogus purple heart for U.S. Presidential Candidate. Hope you don't mind some minor emendations:
- Cow tipping news takes precedence over bogus purple heart for Democrat U.S. Presidential Candidate who is running on his "war record".
