I think you've got something. Maybe he WAS trying to convince her that he was prescient, so that, in her California girl mind, that would explain away his reference to "loss" on Dec. 9.
I think in California they refer to all this stuff as "head games". He was definitely playing head games with her.
There is no way this jury would ever now think that this man was incapable of anything, no matter how creepy, macabre, or sick.
Remember the idea that maybe Scott was giving Laci some sort of poison to try and make her miscarry?
I can easily, easily imagine this man as the type who might give poison, after hearing all these conversations.
