I can easily, easily imagine this man as the type who might give poison, after hearing all these conversations.

My thoughts too. I think he would have. For her to be so sick and dizzy. He could have been slipping some fertilizer or herbicide in her food to keep her mostly weak, dizzy, and out of his face. That he could keep her too exhausted and sick to challenge his mental games.
