The Department of Homeland Security wants to restrict the U.S. Border Patrol's arrest of illegal aliens in the nation's interior, concerned that the recent apprehension of 450 illegals by agents in inland areas of Southern California failed to consider the "sensitivities" of those detained. According to department sources, a formal written policy under review would limit Border Patrol arrests to areas along the nation's 7,000 miles of international border and give U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) the responsibility for enforcing immigration laws in the nation's interior. But ICE officials have acknowledged that it has neither the manpower nor the resources to carry out an extensive interior-enforcement program. Between 8 million and 12 million illegal aliens are thought to be in the United States. ICE has only 2,300 agents committed to interior-enforcement efforts, and they concentrate on finding the 80,000 criminal aliens on the nation's streets and 320,000 foreign nationals known as "absconders," who fled after being ordered deported. In recent weeks, ICE supervisors also have been asked to "closely scrutinize all expenditures and curtail spending to the maximum extent possible." Under the pending policy, according to the sources, Homeland Security would restrict the Border Patrol to the arrest of illegal aliens traveling north from the border, others at border highway checkpoints and illegals at transportation centers, such as international airports. The California arrests took place at public locations in the state's interior during a two-week period beginning June 4. The aliens were taken into custody by a newly trained 12-member Border Patrol team based in Temecula, Calif., known as the Mobile Patrol Group. Homeland Security Undersecretary Asa Hutchinson criticized the arrests, saying they had not been approved by officials in Washington and violated U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) policy, the agency that oversees the Border Patrol.

Time to write the Congress critters again
both side talk out of both sides of their ass on this subject.
The truth is neither side cares one iota about stopping illegal immigrants.
Both sides care about immigrant votes and cheep labour.
Both sides are dogs.
thanks.
...Between 8 million and 12 million illegal aliens are thought to be in the United States. ICE has only 2,300 agents committed to interior-enforcement efforts, and they concentrate on finding the 80,000 criminal aliens on the nation's streets...
They are ALL criminal aliens!
Too many of them don't care. Unless there is a real threat of throwing them out of office, they are impervious to pressure. This is why Tancredo is so reviled by the White House. He is a rallying point for opposition and causes Rove headaches. However, to be effective, there needs to be real fear instilled in our Congress critters and there isn't while we are locked into the reality of "if you don't vote for Bush, you support Kerry" trap.
I don't mean to be the "poster police". Maybe you should ping "gubamyster" to get on the immigrant ping list? It's been very busy lately. Makes me pretty angry to see the damage being accepted by these illegals.
It's time to make an example out of Asa Hutchinson.
Would he change his tune if his home were overrun by illegal alien criminals? Rapists? Thieves?
He needs to feel our pain right at home.
These administrators are BASTARDS and TRAITORS.
I had wondered how that had happened. Now I understand. They were new...they still thought their job was to actually enforce the nation's laws.
What about citizen's sensitivities? Illegals' sensitivities should be centered around their backsides after being kicked out.
"(Hutchinson) told a crowd of angry residents demanding better enforcement...that the Border Patrol would continue its responsibilities, but it "is not going to go out and start doing enforcement based on racial profiling."
He knows fully well that no one asked him to do that. We'd better start checking horses for Mad Cow Disease because some healthy cattle might moo objections.
"These mobile patrol arrests were actually having an impact in Mexico," said T.J. Bonner of the National Border Patrol Council. "Word was getting around that you weren't necessarily OK once you got past the border."
Just like Bush's "not-an-amnesty" proposal echoed from the tip of South America before a week passed. We need to keep discouraging news flowing through the rumor mill. It heads illegals "off at the pass" and saves us a literal fortune!
Sensitivities?!!The agents "failed to consider the sensitivities" of those detained?!!!! What the aitch ee double ll is that supposed to mean? I guess we'll be "sensitive" until we've allowed ourselves to be destroyed.
Yea, that'll do it.
Aw, isn't that sweet. Homeland Insecurity is worried about the "sensitivities" of criminals. Gets me all choked up </ sniff, sniff>. Compassionate "consevativism" at work.
Unless said citizens are campaign donors, they don't meant squat.
I don't believe it. When a terrorist blows up a building, I hope he's sensitive about it. ;-)
I can't begin to start with this right now...argh..
BTTT
