Here's a better shot of that green van, called an Uazik, for the Ulyanovsk auto factory (UAZ). Lots of Soviet/Russian trucks were named for their factory (sort of like the 'MAN' buses), ie: KAMAZ, GAZ, MAZ, etc.
The worst of the Soviet auto industry had to be the Zaporozhets, an air-cooled, rear-enginned POS from Zaporozh'e, Ukraine. It is usually driven by a near-sighted old pensioner who has no insurance and no possessions other than his 'zapor' (Russian for 'constipation') and a B&W Slavutich television back at his son-in-law's apartment.
