There were vinyl loops stuck between the side of the seat back and the body. Pulling on them released a latch and the back folded down. Most bugs I've seen had them tucked away out of sight and a lot of owners were totally unaware of being able to pivot the seat back down. My father had two bugs come and go before he discovered the feature. The cooler thing was with the pre-61 cars. The front seats pivoted at the base. Of course, if you're hobbled by a 40 horsepower motor and 6 volt electrics, there need to be some special features to keep you interested.

The way the floorboards practically melted away if you drove the machine on salted winter roads for any period of time was no thrilling thing. I've heard of people driving down the road and the next thing they know, the seat rails are skidding on the pavement and you're suddenly 7 inches shorter.

!!!
LOL!
Yeah, the body pans were kinda *cough* special.
Knew that the seat cushion came up(off really), but not that the seat back came down.
Remember having to help fix a heat exchanger and replace engine compartment seals.
Boy was THAT a fun exercise.
Especially since the car had JUST been run, and we only had 30 minutes to get it done.
Not impossible, just painful.
Noted that a Porsche engine coule fit in there, but the engine cooling needed to be tweaked.
Then saw that a guy in California was actually busted in a Bug whilke doing 100+.
The cop didn;'t believe it, so he asked the guy what kind of engine he had in it.
(Porsche 911 turbo engine IIRC.)
You know how many Porsche owners get REALLY P.O'd when you tell them that Ferdinand Porsche made Volkswagen first before making Porsche, so that in reality they're driving really fast VW's..
(I know, but I love busting on them.)

The Aztek looks like an SUV that had forcible relations with a dump truck.

LOL I was wondering when someone would mention Toyota's new Scion line. That's a Scion xB. We've got one, in a nice Black Cherry Pearl. My young nephew calls it our "wind-up car". We love it. More head and legroom that many SUVs, and it gets better than 30 mpg. And I actually like the looks. It reminds me of a family member's Model A, and I've that car for years.

Gotta have four wheels to be a car ~ that's considered a motorcycle.

I drove a bug once and it was the worst car I have ever been in. I do see how your experience bonded you to it.

my girlfriend even threatened to leave if I sold it.

I hope there isn't an ounce of truth to that.

Loved his Model A. But this car comes with an automatic tranny. I can't drive a stick to save my life :)

Don't try this at home. (Reminds me of seeing an 85 HP Evinrude on a 4-man rubber raft. Actually, that makes more sense, since the raft was used as a launch for a 40' yacht, the Evinrude could be used in case of a motor failure on the yacht, assuming it had some kinda mount.)

Toyota?? I never would have guessed...Land Rover was my guess. What's the deal with NO ground clearance? The one I saw on the road looked like it would be easy to bottom out. And why does it have to be so ugly? I mean, pardon me because I know you love it, but you have to admit it is just a box.
