I sang at 9:30 but stayed for 11 when I realized the Heralds of the Gospel were in full force. In addition to the choir of young women from Canada I'd heard last year, they had a group of young men playing brass and percussion and processing with an immense new banner into St. Patrick's. (On the way out ... in old style ... the Herald stopped three times through the nave and "flew" the banner over us.)

The Mass was truly exquisite and it's a real joy to see so many young folks consecrate their lives thus. We're lucky to have the Heralds at St. Pat's.

Just like we're lucky to have folks like you around. (I'd like to attend one of those meetings, btw.) We live in interesting times such that it's almost a sin ONLY to "pick up a pin" for Christ. I pray that I and others take a cue from folks like you and the Heralds.

Nite, Cp.

You are too kind, REALLY. I'm not worthy to be mentioned in the same sentence as the Heralds. I wish I had been there that must've ben great.

A Knight tells me Fr. Klores will be in France (Lourdes?) for a week+? Is that correct? I'm hoping to get the VOTE Pro-Life signs to St. Pats ASAP.

Life of the mother? That's a tired old excuse for abortions.

OTOH, I absolutely agree that as the fetus comes closer to being a viable person, the state's interest in the second life grows...

Just when, exactly, does the fetus become a "viable person"? Would you apply this argument about the state "intruding" when it involved the protection of blacks, Jews, the mentally retarded, or any other group you choose? The only just reason for putting a person to death intentionally is when that person has committed a capital crime. The baby's only crime is existence.

This is sick.

..reducing the availability of abortions (by harassing, threatening, and murdering doctors and picketing, vandalizing and bombing clinics), and making abortions more difficult to obtain (through legal and extralegal means, causes the rate of late-term abortions to increase drastically -- this leads to an increase in the rate of maternal complications...

Yes. 'Maternal complications', like motherhood.

I'll never understand how a mother can kill her own child. May God have mercy on America.

the average maternal death rate when a pregnancy is continued to birth is about 66 per million births. The death rate from continuing the pregnancy to birth is about 33 times higher than having an early abortion (under 9 weeks gestation). (cite)

Well... Whoop-de-doo! That figures to be 1998.

the average fetal death rate when a pregnancy is continued to birth is about WHAT? The death rate from having ANY abortion, is ONE MILLION dead babies. (any human with brains)

How stupid are we?

Pat Robertson was pooh poohed for saying 911 was our fault.

Big deal: about 3000 died.

Do you have any IDEA how many abortions are done in NYC every year?????

(Hint: It'll take LOTS of 747's crashing into WTC size buildings to equal the total)

Dammit, dammit, dammit, dammit, what a soul-wrenching story. may God have mercy on his tiny soul, and ours, for allowing that to be done that to him and millions of others. God bless him and keep him.

Personally, I find it difficult if not impossible to justify the state intruding in the reproductive decisions of adults in either contraception or in the first few weeks after conception.

The individuals involved have already made their choice once conception is done.

At that point, a third voice needs to be heard.

But I was told in college it was more important to save a tree on somebody else's land in a state where I don't even live and ruin the jobs of people I don't even know.

Some time ago, someone gave me a tape with Tiny Tim's story recorded on it, told by Sharon. I've cried listening to this tape more times that I care to recall. Finally I decided to pass it on to somebody else, with a request to listen to it and then pass it on again. Thank God for President Bush and the Born Alive Infant Protection Act!

Nobody seems to be willing willing to acknowledge that women die from pregnancy

When I was a teenager, our family doctor's wife died during childbirth. Later on I found out that she had been warned about the risk to her life, but that when she found out she was pregnant she just wouldn't consider any alternative except taking her chances. Women don't die like that anymore, but I will always remember her as a loving mother who cared more about her child than she cared about herself. Isn't that what motherhood is all about? "Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends" John 15:13

God sends His man to us to reward us or punish us according to His justice

What an scary thought! You are right, though, and I don't see any signs that this country is turning back to the Lord. I just feel like spending the rest of the time, between now and November, on my knees, praying for mercy.

...."on my knees, praying for mercy."

That IS our most powerfull weapon! We should vote fo God's man for our INDIVIDUAL duty(we will be judged individually for our personal actions), but our fate(as a nation), still rests with Him!
