I take it there was a blood bath. I wasn't born yet when this was happening and I don't remember hearing a lot about Vietnam in history class.

You won't hear much history any more of any kind in High School History Class. You are getting a pretty good lesson now if you are paying attention.

It was a very bitter time, with the majority of the American People supporting the Vietnam War effort (look at the Nixon electoral landslide of 1972) but a very determined number against it, just like today in Iraq. In fact, many are the same cast of characters. If you listened to Kerry in 1971, you could substitute "Iraq" for "Vietnam" today and not see much difference. These people have learned nothing, nothing, from history. They are blinded by their personal hatred and ideology. Their stubborn ignorance and opposition has caused the death of millions.

Bloodbath figures (those killed after downfall of Vietnam) are unable to be accurately determined. Estimates range from tens of thousands in Laos (the killing is still going on today), to hundreds of thousands - possibly at least 500 thousand - in Vietnam (including "boat people" who died on the high seas trying to escape the Communists persecutions), to over 2 million in Cambodia, who died at the hands of the Khmer Rouge (Cambodian Communists). Bloodbath numbers were probably somewhere between 2-3 million, after the war was over. This does not count the huge number of dead the Communists murdered after the end of the First Indochina War against the French which ended in 1956, nor the millions of refugees who fled from North to South to escape the Communists at that time. Nor does it include the nearly 500,000 murdered by the Communists during the Vietnam War.

The figures are simply appalling - and largely ignored.

It was well known before the end of the War (certainly in 1971) the Communists had a plan to take retribution if they were victorious. The said so repeatedly, and wrote openly about it. The only question was how high the numbers would be? The antiwar Left, like Kerry, were simply lying when they asserted there would be no bloody aftermath, and they knew it.

Any nation which ever went Communist has experienced a bloodbath to one extent or another. It is the acknowledged way the communists assert their control.

I watched this debate and could see how much Kerry was groomed to be just like Bill Clinton. They both look the same in their eyes!!

Do you think Americas-Enemies trained and groomed both Kerry and Clinton, setting one in Moscow to do Anti-USA marches, and one in Vietnam, foreseeing future poltical worth in both men??

On'Neill was fabulous, even after Cavet turned on him at the end. What a TRUE American.
