Fine print of alien amnesty
The Washington Times ^ | 8/15/2004

Opinion polls consistently show the vast majority of Americans oppose amnesty for illegal aliens. But some Republicans continue pushing amnesty legislation. In this case, it's called AgJOBS.

Conservatives whom special interests have snookered into cosponsoring the agriculture amnesty--S. 1645 in the Senate and H.R. 3142 in the House--should read the fine print. In addition to the odious amnesty provisions, this legislation should give thinking cosponsors "buyer's remorse."

Though Republicans are the lead AgJOBS sponsors, there is a good reason most cosponsors are liberal Democrats. AgJOBS is liberal legislation

The euphemism sponsors invoke is "earned legalization.".But amnesty is amnesty, by any other name. Bottom line, alien lawbreakers are rewarded for lawbreaking; they get to keep the jobs they came here to steal.

I trust you're just drooling to pick oranges in place of the illegals, eh, Photie? How about pushing a broom at Wal-Mart? No? Interested in turning a spade working on some rich person's back yard, or moving broken concrete from a construction site?

If not, and if no American you know would do such work, who *precisely* do you expect to get that work done?

And don't talk about America's kids; 1/3 of them were aborted and can't be hired.

"THEY ONLY TAKE THE JOBS THAT AMERICANS DONt WANT" (at the wages employers want to pay)!

Ever hear of higher wages, shadycrap. Better yet, Ever hear of mechanisation, the computer revolution or capital improvements? as long as business has unlimited access to cheap labor, it has no reason to substitute anything else.
and the taxpayers get to subsidize the cheap immigrant wages with everything from special ed to emergency room visits.

NO AMNESTY. NONE. no excuses.

Japan gets along, a bit older and slower, without immigration. but they get on

what's your stake in cheap labor, shadycrap?

This is the part the cheap labor lobby loves:

As if the joke of "work requirements" isn't bad enough, AgJOBS also amnesties the unscrupulous employers who have provided illegal employment.

Stealth Amnesty Ping!

This S. 1645 bill is bad, folks. It's so bad for us and our country that your Congressmen need to get an earfull. A few reasons why:

-Taxpayer-funded lawyers. AgJOBS adds insult to injury by forcing taxpayers to pay for Legal Services lawyers to counsel the illegal aliens. Any conservative should recall that Legal Services is full of liberal lawyers. They will help legalizing aliens to apply for temporary and permanent residence.

-Invitation to fraud. AgJOBS allows illegal aliens seeking amnesty to cite work while "employed under an assumed name," relies on "just and reasonable inference" this is the person who actually performed asserted work and takes the lawbreaker at his word for the work he claims he did. The bill lets people now in their home country make amnesty claims. AGJOBS directs Homeland Security officials sorting out all the amnesty claims to accept affidavits from the illegal aliens. Suddenly believing people who perfected lying and deception defies common sense.

-Tort deform. AgJOBS creates a new right to sue. That means more lawsuits, targeted at agricultural employers. H2A visaholders will be able to sue over housing allowances, alleged discrimination, transportation reimbursement, benefits and employment conditions.

Imagine ravenous children looting a candy store. That's what it will be like for lawyers. Spending a few minutes using the phone or NumbersUSA really makes a difference.

Sorry guys, there is no "snookering" going on here. This is the Cheap Labor wing of the Republican party and they know exactly what they are shoving down our throats. When are Republican's going to wake up the 5th Column in their ranks?

Amnesty2 is likely to have the same "stringent" employer sanctions that amnesty1 was supposed to have, but didn't quite get put into law, so the dentures had no bite.

and btw, and quite seriously, I'd rather pay more for orange juice, produce, lawn service and room service, than pass this amnesty.

I believe the mantra of the cheap labor lobby can be broken down into a simple phrase:

"Privatize profits; socialize costs."

These people would have had recurring roles in the works of Charles Dickens.

There wasn't any problem getting US citizens to do that work before WW-2. The only reason that the bracero program was instituted then was that such a large percentage of males in this country went off to war. Force the illegals out and there will be plenty of americans to do the work especially if we end welfare and they either have to work or die of starvation. If they chose to die of starvation, good ridance!

I personally do the kind of construction work that you talk about and don't mind it one bit. I'm 66 and plan to be doing it until i'm at least 80. The only thing that i'm really pissed about is that they have not only lowered what I can charge for my work but they have trashed the quality of work that is being done. Illegals are not only slow and inept but do shity work.

You talk like an elitist. There are plenty of people who will do those jobs, including teenagers who used to do them as entry level jobs, before moving up.

Yes, we can talk about America's kids because they are not learning the value of a dollar through hard work. And there's no better incentive to get a person to go to college or better themselves, than working as a janitor or housekeeper, busboy, fruit harvester, laborer etc for a few years.

What kind of society do you envision? A self-sustaining one where the character of a person is built by hard work, or one that needs to constantly refresh its lowest paid most poverty level workers, with lower paid, more impoverished workers?

Why should that matter in the least? Or are you looking for an excuse to spew your obiter dicta on the subject? You don't need MY permission to do that. Or are you secretly convinced that anyone who thinks that "All Those Horrible Illegals" are doing more good than harm must be a Democrat leftist?

If I didn't have a tagline I was partial to, I would grab that one. Good point.
