Judging from the Olympics, it looks like Bush put together a pretty strong coalition.
I couldn't decide wether Russia should be in the Commies or Appeasers bracket, so I left them in Commie group with China and Cuba.
The Appeasers are France, Germany, and Belgium.
Unknown are Thailand, South Africa, Indonesia, Serbia, and Argentina.

Wheres Russia now, appeasers or communists?
Mexico?
Canada?
Personally, Id like to see all 3 in the appeasers category.
Nice idea BTW!
Canada is in the appeasers column, with all 3 of their medals, slightly behind Zimbabwe.
Russia is still in the commies group, but I'll probably move them over.

Thats pretty good. It shows that athletically, the coalition of the willing is 50% stronger than the rest of the world combined.
I suspect that parallels pretty closely to us militarily and economically as well. This is not a suggestion of more work for you, but imagine the argument that could be make if that assumption was researched and shown to be true. I bet that the GDP of these nations is pretty easy to come by on the web so that an economic comparison could be made.
Military capabilitys a little more tricky. Many nations have large militaries with lots of equipment, but their soldiers are frequently poorly trained and the equipment is poorly maintained. I dont know if theres a web site that does the work in that regard and ranks nations militaries.
But think of the argument in the final months of the election that could be made by plotting all that out visually, showing that the coalition of the willing are by far the majority of the word athletically, economically and militarily. It would certainly put a plug in Kerrys hole next time he claims we went in alone.
Even more interesting, assuming that the above three measurements line up pretty closely, imagine juxtaposing that with the Allies verses Axis in WWII using the medal count from the 1936 Olympics. An absolutely unique thesis with real world political impact could be build.
First it could be demonstrated that the Olympics is a measurement of nations power in world matters, economically and politically. Second it would be demonstrated that since the coalition of the willing is 60% athletic power, its 60% of world power. Third it could be compared to the Allie alliance in WWII. If it comes out favorably, it would be both imaginative enough to get picked up by the media and powerful enough to factor into the election dialogue.
Imagine commentators on the right stomping on the lefts claims with proof that Bush put together a more powerful and dominant alliance than Roosevelt. It just kind of stuffs that going alone assertion back down their throat.
I cant put much time into this now, but Ill do a little looking around and post if I find anything.
Regarding my post above, I can't find too much other than his link. I just put out a help request on several military news groups. http://perso.club-internet.fr/vadeker/humanite/apercu/world-military-spending.html

That is such a good line that it bears repetition.
