In addition, from NYT article: Mr. Bush's brother, President Bush, announced that he would visit the state on Sunday. "Many lives have been affected by this hurricane and I know you join me in sending our prayers to those people looking for solace and help,'' he told a crowd as he campaigned in Iowa.

BTW, the newscasters I saw on local tv interviewed local people and others, and they were very glad Gov Bush was here right away, assessing the damage, calming people, etc.

There has also been an enormous number of state and local officials and volunteers from Broward, Dade, Sarasota and all over Florida coming into SW FL. So, people are pulling together here.

If you can offer financial help, as Gov Bush mentioned, click on "Disaster Responders Request Donations" or "Florida's Red Cross Chapters" HERE. And, thanks. :)

I'm so glad you're ok. Haven't seen you on threads lately but I've been more quiet than usual.
I've been praying for safety and protection this week for all in the storm's path. It's terrible destruction and loss of life.
I'll be praying that all the help needed comes quickly.
We've been trying to contact friends in Orlando but no luck yet.

2 1/2 months of hurricane season left too! UGH!

I live in Broward County and I went thru hell on Friday due to Hurricane Charlie. I was walking outside when suddenly a wind gust of about 35 MPH ruffled up my hair and caused me huge embarrassment in public before I combed it back in place. The psychological damage to me was DEVASTATING. What I want to know is what agency or organization I can turn to for psychological help in overcoming the public humiliation I suffered. I am still having nightmares about my hair being ruffled by Hurricane Charlie.

Note: No Jeb Bushes had their hair ruffled during the making of this post.

Bumping your thread because the Houston area is way overdue for a hurricane and I know our time is coming soon.

All the people of Florida are in my prayers.

Prayers for my elderly Aunt and Uncle Marcia and Leonard Lieurance whose house was in the path of the storm in Port Charlotte. They evacuated but I believe will have lost their house.

The State and the Feds obviously learned their lessons; they were a no show for days after Andrew.

One thing that would help would be for Florida to get rid of the ridiculous anti-gouging laws they passed after Hurricane Andrew.

There are hundreds of people around the country who would load up a U-haul truck with chainsaws and generators and be in Florida tomorrow morning if they could make it financially worthwhile.

You can deplore this as greed and gouging all you like, but it is a fact as immutable as the law of gravity. Hats off to the Red Cross and other volunteers, but they will not make nearly as much difference to peoples' well being as some suitably compensated capitalists.

Here's a link I just used for the Salvation Army. You can specify the Hurricane Victims fund. The "Donation" link is on the left side down a little.

Direct Link to Salvation Army (Secure Donations can be accessed from here)

I'll donate to the Salvation Army, thank you. Who knows what the RC will do with donations.
