My nephew called in from Punta Gorda this morning. He survived the storm about 5 blocks from the Burnt Store Marina when he cares for about 20+ boats. He started storm preparations 3 days before the storm, tying off, reinforcing ropes. Every single craft under his care was unharmed, but almost every other boat is totaled - beached, sunk, mast bent. There was PLENTY of warning.

One of the problems is that Punta Gorda has not had a storm for about 85 years and thought they were immune to them. Guess not.

Yes, the forecasters said the storm was going to hit Tampa. Sounds like Charley wasn't listening.

Bush Sr. took a lot of hell for Andrew in S.Florida. I remeber laying on Ft.Lauderdale Beach 2 days later and just seeing about 14 or 15 U.S. Army choppers carrying supplies back and forth. People in the face of chaos do say some pretty stupid crap...but to blast Jeb on this is insane. He doesn't even work for the national hurricane center. Also, they use tracking maps with cones of error in them constantly...do people just think those are there for extra color?

No, I do not think God is trying to tell us something, and it has not been 100 years since the last catastrophic hurricane (Camille, Andrew, Hugo, etc.).

What I do think is that evil will find an outlet, and right now it is focussed on the results of the storm and turning it to political advantage.
