If you have a radio that can receive HF signals you can listen on 14.325.00 MHZ.
Alex did the same thing last week.
I've lived in Florida for 58 years. My Spidey sense says this one will cross the state south of St. Augustine, possibly a lot south, head out into the Atlantic and threaten the Carolinas.
If I'm not freeping from Jacksonville tomorrow evening, then I was wrong and the weather guys are right.
Ft. Myers beach now clearing 61 mph plus...
I know...always a favorite FL west coast destination...right over that same Pass (remember Donna in 1960?)
I just returned from having Chinese food for lunch. The old closed K-Mart parking lot (near I-10) is full of those big trucks (I'd estimate 200) with the long telescoping booms. I'm guessing they're queing for the trip to Florida.
The pictures from Fort Myers are truly frightening. The palm trees are whipping aroound like Q-Tips...
FYI...

Check the radar loop in post #3 - the eye has tracked more to the north over the last few frames.
A few years back we had a "cat 5" blow down a sign on the Texas gulf coast. Sometimes the media (and the government) lie to you. (for your own good of course) when you are 20 miles from a big cat 4, you should be catching all hell. 100+ winds.
Alex got stronger after passing the coast. Pretty amazing.
That's what I am hearing; they are ready to roll as soon as they can!
Stay safe!
This is awful... talking to friends in SW Florida this morning, they were NOT prepared ... expecting the storm to hit Tampa ...
Its scary when the telecasters are talking about taking cover, Im worried for my relatives in SC! There goes Ft. Myers cam..64 mph winds
They'd be better off getting hit directly. If the storm tracks to the west/north of them, they'll see the strongest winds.
There is a guy from Captiva talking to the weather guys right now live....he sounds calm..
The FT Myers Beach Cam is still up and is amazing..it is shaking like the dickens
Apparently they still miss John Hope. All the cable news networks scooped them on the upgrade to Cat 4 status. And their presentation is as dry, formal and stiff as Sunday morning church.
