FORECASTER LAWRENCE
Wampus, I have not been able to be on the Charley thread since about 4:00 PM yesterday. Now I am hopelessly behind. There are over 2800 posts. I had relatives in Fla so I tracked the thread all day yesterday. I think they are OK.
However, Florence which you mention is familiar. I stayed there a couple of weeks ago enroute to NMyrtle Beach. As I understood from the Weather Channel last night, anyone between the ocean and Rt 501 were being evacuated. Where did it come ashore? Little River? Ocean Isle? Wilmington? (I stayed in Ocean Isle for a time after leaving NMB. Not much room for margin there. At high tide, the canals' water is already within 3-4 feet of cars parked under the beach houses....) How about the Outer Banks? Did it hit there? I am scheduled to arrive there with friends on Dec 26 provided the place is still there....
Downgrading to TS status is good news.
I was just listenting to someone on FNC interviewing the deputy director of Virginia EMA.........I wish these "reporters" would get their geography straight........he started asking her a question speaking of the DelMarVA peninsula (which is where I live) and ended the question referencing Virginia Beach and Norfolk - both on the otherside of the Chesapeake Bay from heere.....sheesh.
The Salvation Army may have relief operations down here similar to the Red Cross. Perhaps their website offers a way to donate. Another possibility is the Southern Baptist Convention. They have a well-established relief "army" which mobilizes in response to disasters like this. They bring in mobile kitchens, supplies of staple items, and work crews to clear up debris. You might see if they offer a way to donate.
I was thinking that, too. I'm going w/Salvation Army.
Howdy.
As much as I want to help - I want to see what happens around here tonight.........we have had so much flooding recently I have a feeling I may need to offer help in my own backyard first.
Hubby got an inter-company memo this morning looking for volunteers to go down to help out their folks there.
Well anyway there was this elderly woman crying and stating her husband dead and her home destroyed and she just wanted to die too. My husband wanted to donate a used RV we had to her. He would probably have even delivered it. He called Red Cross. They weren't interested and instructed us to sell it and just send them the money. We quit donating after that. I'm sure they do a lot of good work but.....
well, now FNC is only saying 15 deaths? But they themselves interviewed that woman from the hospital who said 150?
have there been any other reports?
Oh what a small world indeed! Yes Conyngham is beautiful and the school is a good one so the property has gone up some what. It took about 10 years for our house to go up in value, now they sell right away. Tell your parents the houses going up in that area are HUGE and have gone up in price.
Oh I work with all Libs. they hate Bush. HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP. I am the only one with the Bush/Cheney sign on the lawn.
I think what FNC is reporting is the "confirmed" number that they are getting from "officials"
That doesn't mean the earlier report from the hospital worker was incorrect - just it is not the "official number"
But right now - I'm getting extremely annoyed with Shep Smith and his sanctimonious attitude.
this video on CNN is amazing, shot in port charlotte as the eye hit.
Just got back on.
If you just HAVE to give money to something..........
DO NOT GIVE IT TO THE RED CROSS!
Remember the mess about 9/11? The Red Cross did not give all the money that was given, that was supposed to go to the families.
I don't believe it did.
FOX and O'Reilly, tried to get to the bottom of it.
But I just wasn't satisfied about it.
Instead they saved it for other disasters. Not necessarily in these United States. The Red Cross is world wide.
It all sounds good.......But the money you give to the Red Cross may buy toiletries for Saddam Hussein, or other terrorists.
To say the least, I would give to charities that I know
serve the Lord.
I would not give the Red Cross one red cent!!!
GIVE TO THE SALVATION ARMY!!!
This is my opinion!
Our TS warning just got extended from 6pm to 9pm...and we're still under that tornado watch till 9pm. Rain is picking up and the winds here are 25-30mph.
I didn't know there was a mill in Fort Myers. I hope it was totally wiped out. Abortions are evil.
We were supposed to fly down there this past Saturday. Luckily our flight was cancelled by the airlines so we were not penalized. We've rescheduled for next weekend. My husbands sister is terminally ill and it will be a goodbye visit for my daugher and I. My husband may make one more trip.
Ours has been til 9 for quite some time. and flooding until morning.
It has not stopped raining here at all this afternoon - although it hasn't been a pounding rain - just staedy.
But it is absolutely deadly calm.
I'm not sure I like the last statement I heard that it would start tracking back east once it hit Norfolk and hit the Atlantic at the mouth of the Chesapeake........not good ......but at least it's moving rather fast and the winds have subsided a bit.
anyone have damage reports for sanibel? all i've been seeing one tv is about punta gorda.
Now all we have to do is watch TS Danielle and Earle - now moving through the Atlantic.
You can see all at this WPTF weather website.
I know, I know - it's hurricane season til the end of November - so this is not a surprise. But it does become a bit nervewracking......
(That WPTF Weather Guy - Accuweather's Joe Bastardi - has his own pay for his expertise business linked there at the WPTF website! Good for him. Entrepreneurize his Weather acumen. ....but I don't plan to pay for the expertize....still, not a bad idea for him to do that. Here's Joe Bastardi's Professional Weather Watching Service website for any who might be lurking and interested.) Joe accurately predicted Charley's intensification. There's a lot more to "payfor" weather stuff on this site.....just passing the info along for those who may want to spend some money. )
Once again - hope this storm speeds on by you in Va and on up and out. But it looks like it will hit some in the NE - hopefully not too severely.
Accuweather had a Tornado warning in one SE Va county - at the mouth of the Chesapeake....hope things are ok there.
I just switched the TV to catch weather on a Norfolk station and it looks like Severa is getting the north eyewall right about now - so at 30 miles an hour I've got about 2 hours +/- for it to get here.
It's still raining, but it is still deadly calm. Hubby commented earlier we will know when it gets close because we will have to close the front door the living room and bedroom windows - as they all face south.
Ugh - no fun when the storm comes through in the dark of the night. Hope it flies by.
