FORECASTER LAWRENCE
S.C. Gov. Sanford has ordered manditory evacuation of the lower areas of the coast. East of hwy 17 in Myrtle Beach manditory evacuation.
That is always useless info for them to broadcast. What it does is get the listeners to think that "Oh its getting better" when in reality it is still one nasty beast. What stating a storm is now a Cat 2 should do is prompt one to look outside, see how nasty it is and just imagine what kind of hell a Cat 4 storm is.
This is a mistake on my fault -- with the storm moving at 25 MPH, this wave of storms in the Atlantic might hit anywhere from West Palm Beach on up to Melbourne.
And they may have diminshed by the time they approach the coast (this is outer most band in the Atlantic that have the brighest orange colors -- heaviest storms).
This may or may not be a problem, but a hurricane is dynamic -- it ROTATES.
Poked my head outside.
Winds appear to be sustained above 30mph. Heard a fairly large branch break while I was out there.
Power seems to have stablized for the moment.
I haven't heard if Daytona beaches were evac'd or not. They were talking about it and closing the bridges but I don't recall if they did.
Are you outer bands?
believe it ... wall to wall high-rise condos as well as lots of single family homes starting one block from the beach.
I don't know if anyone has posted this but on August 18 1986 hurricane Charley hit North Carolina at Moorehead City as a catergory 1.Thought that was kind of interesting.
all your outer bands ...
getting interesting here - wind is really starting to pick up.
MSBNC at a retirement haven of homes in port charlotte - alot of damage.
Statement as of 9:07 PM EDT on August 13, 2004
... Extremely destructive winds over Kissimmee... St. Cloud... and
Orlando spreading into Seminole and Volusia County...
... Winds now gusting to 105 mph at Orlando international!!!...
... Damaging winds affecting Brevard and lake counties...
At 855 PM... the circulation center of Hurricane Charley was located
over Kissimmee... moving northeast at 23 mph directly towards
Orlando... Union Park... and Oviedo.
Destructive wind gusts to 100 mph will occur as the eye Wall of the
hurricane continues to affect Osceola... Orlando and Seminole
counties between 9:00 and 10:30 PM. Remain in safe location in the
center of your home away from windows. This is an extremely
dangerous and life threatening situation.
Winds and rainfall will be increasing across Brevard County... with
gusts of 75 mph likely... especially across northern portions of the
County. These winds will cause significant damage to some
structures... trees... powerlines. Flying debris will create an
extreme hazard... remain off roadways.
The destructive winds will begin to spread across Volusia County
around 930 PM.
Numerous damage reports are being received from Osceola County.
At 850 PM... the Kissimmee wind sensor was disabled after a gust to
75 mph. At 905 PM... Orlando International Airport gusted to 105 mph.
Recent reports from Hardee County emergency management in interior
southwest Florida indicate catastrophic wind damage as the eye Wall
passed early this evening.
Leading edge of the storm now back over the Atlantic.
Eye, breaking up a little, is west of downtown Orlando, seems to be right at the Bee Line expressway.
gusts to 105 mph at Orlando International Airport (MCO)
Public Advisory #19B is coming...please standby

Wifey on the phone with her sis in Lakeland right now...the worst has passed through there and they've untaped some of the windows. We were nervous (out here in Cali) about earlier in this thread having indications that the eye was over Haines City, very close to Lakeland.
I could be wrong, but I think parts of SC are overreacting a bit. Beaufort County cancelled schools today...
Lakeland was maybe 20-25 miles west of the eye, which was maybe 5-8 miles across.
