My Father-in-Law lives on Siesta Key, 200yds from the ocean and about 200yds from the intercoastal ww. His place cant be more than 3-4ft above sea level. Fron the looks of the tracking Charlie will rake the coastline/barrier islands tween port charlotte and sarasota....If they are correct on the surge(lets hope not) this thing is gonna be a mess for the barrier islands.......
Right smack in the path in Sarasota, where it's very muggy and gray and a little breezy at the moment. I'm at work at the newspaper, and hope to get home (out in east county) some time tomorrow. We're a quarter mile from the bay and no one knows what will happen at this building.
Godspeed
Prayers out for all my Gators down there in FLA (and I'll even through in a prayer for you Noles and Canes) ;)

Starwise,
I'll add you to my prayer list. My familie's right there, too, in the Tampa Bay area. Remember that God is in control and He's with you. You are NOT alone!
Hang in there and check back tomorrow or at your earliest to let us know how you are. That goes for all you Floridians! Stay safe!
Good luck, Starwise. This won't be an Andrew.
The skies are darkening and a light rain is just beginning to fall. No wind, the trees are still and it feels like all the air is being sucked out. Very humid.
I'm trying to kill time here, I'm starting to go nuts waiting around for this thing.
The kids are all playing outside right now. Good for them to use up some energy before becoming house bound.
You're in good shape. Keep the radio tuned to 970 WFLA. Go to Here to track the storm and get updates. Channel 8 is also a good source.
I've been through dozens of hurricanes, which means if you have prepared well, you will be just fine too.

Starwise I am going to be praying for you all day today and I expect an update by this evening. Keep the dog close to you and keep your eyes on the Lord. I send you love and
cyber hugs.
Ping to an awesome prayer warrior
I was born in Jacksonville and spent most of my life here. Rode out Dora, and something else about 1950. I always thought Jacksonville was immune because of its placement on the East Coast. Never thought I'd see hurricane force winds come from the Southwest.
Shopping is a mess. Everyone is buying food and batteries. I managed to get a propane tank exchanged.
I'm praying for you, Starwise, and everyone down there.
My daughter and her family are there, too. She just moved and I don't have the address or phone number. You better believe I'm praying.
Ok, Orlandoans, it's predicted to come right thru Orlando now. BUT! we should get a better picture at the 3pm hour just in case.
Three tornados have been spotted: one in Lake County and two in Orange County. Haven't heard any reports yet of damage.
Mobile home parks have been ordered evacuated in Osceola, Orange and Seminole counties (Central Florida)
My 17 year old son was in Naples Florida until this morning, he's staying with family friends and they've picked up and moved 1 1/2 hr drive to the interior. I'm hopng all is well, as of about 4PM they just reported a rain storm. I will try and call them later tonight, it seems some cell phone lines are out. The waiting is the worst, but we're all thinking of you guys down there.
Starwise, I was scared all day and it didn't matter that Charley didn't hit here as predicted. When I saw the destruction in Punta Gorda footage, I'm even more scared. That was supposed to be us. THE SKY IS WHITE TOO. I've never seen a WHITE SKY. This is fascinating.
