Rift grows as Iranians caught fighting for Sadr

Michael Howard in Baghdad Friday August 13, 2004 The Guardian

Security officials in Baghdad were last night urgently investigating the background of 30 Iranians who were caught fighting for a rebel Shia cleric in Iraq, amid mounting concern over the involvement of the Tehran regime in the uprising. The Guardian has learned that the most senior members of the Iraqi government were briefed about the capture of the men yesterday, and also told of other evidence that fighters and equipment have been crossing the border from Iran.

The 30 men were captured in the southern city of Kut on Wednesday and officials are trying to establish whether they have any links to Tehran.

"We are checking their identities but if they are found to have links to the Iranians then that would be tantamount to a declaration of war by them," said a senior Iraqi source, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The source said members of Iraq's national security committee had yesterday been presented "with revealing information about the extent of Iranian involvement in Iraqi affairs", which was being taken seriously at the "highest echelons of government".

Anybody care to guess the Guardian's reaction if 30 armed Americans and 2 trucks loaded with weapons showed up inside Iran?

No effin shiite Dog. I hope the offensive to rid the fundamentalism Iranian al-Mahdi whackos inside Iraq is finished off decisively once and for all, followed by, at the Iraqi government's request, a quick and powerful overthrow of the Mullahranians...

The whole insurrgency is being funded by Iran and Iranians are sneaking in over the border to bring the cash/gold to fund it. Might be time to take out that nuke reactor and see what cards the Iranians are really holding.

I wouldn't be surprised if Iran wasn't using this opportunity to empty it's prisons (a la Fidel) and sending people over the border.

It is a matter of survival for them to beat us in Iraq.

Have to agree with you there.

I think we are in Iraq to defeat Iran and prevent radical Islam from having access to nuclear weapons. The WMDs that we are worried about are in Iran and being developed by Iran, not Iraq. We have them surrounded and they are feeling the pressure. If Bush wins they are dead meat and they know it.

"Links to teheran"? If they're Iranians, let the Iraquis line them up and shoot them, and send Iran a bill for the ammo.

The Iranians and Syrians didn't learn the lesson from Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya that they should have. As they have decided to fight on, prolonging the war in Iraq delays the attack on Iran until they get the BOMB. At which time, they will be safe from attack.

That essentially is what Gen McInery said to Britt Hume yesterday.... Iran and Syria plan to divide Iraq , Syria would take the northern Oil fields and Iran the Southern, the Kurds could have their own area...

Check this out:

Many Groups of Sadr Militia surrendered to the Iraqi Police and Coalition forces after they gave up their arms. Among them are children less than 12 years old given RPG 7 and Kalashnikovs? Bullshit instead of a book and a computer or a game.

We will get pictures of their surrender later.

There is an imminent attack with tear gas to those hide themselves inside Imam Ali shrine and among them MS who escaped earlier.

Iran frustrated by the news of thousands of the militia it trained started to surrender and among them many Iranians, and Arabs. This makes an Iranian top leader to announce that the US will soon face a similar defeat like Vietnam War! A clear sign indicating the involvement of Iran in what is going on in Najaf and the Iraq.

Good news!

However, since we are fighting a sensitive war, one can hope that no women's underwear will be put on the heads of the poor prisoners.

If the Iranians start to really go for broke, that would mean that their polls in the USA show a big win for GW.

"Many Groups of Sadr Militia surrendered to the Iraqi Police and Coalition forces after they gave up their arms. Among them are children less than 12 years old given RPG 7 and Kalashnikovs?'

Sounds just like the die hard Nazis in the last days of WWII in Germany. They had their youths out fighting in sure death situations.

The adults who did this horrible thing should be shot and feed to hogs and dogs.
