After reading the articles on PMS-NBC, those guys seem hungry for victory!

Man when I heard this I had tears in my eyes.I watched the game on PMSNBC. The best programming they had in ages. The Iraqi team actually scored 5 of the six goals in the 4-2 win, they accidentally made one for Portugal.
This was a HUGH upset. I'd bet it's bigger news in Iraq than what's going on in Najaf, thankfully.

I didn't realize until I read the other thread that we don't have a team in the Olympics. On the contrary we have Mia Hamm and Co. in the womens soccer tournament. They beat Greece in the first match.
I don't think the Iraqi women could run very well in those "things" they wear. LOL

I thought I would be only one sentimental enough to tear up when they heard the news! It's a great life when something as simple as a soccer win can be so very emblematic!

I am not signed up for this newspaper. I just did a google search for Iraqi soccer and this was the one that came up. It linked right to it with no log in.
If this is a liberal paper, I sure hope it pisses off the libs. They probably don't get good news like this often. I am sure they would love to see the Iraqi's lose so they could blame Bush.

I would think it cool if they actually win a medal. Although thats probably unlikely.

It would be cool if the Iraqi's played their anthem and the American anthem when they win a gold.I still think many Iraqis are not yet quite convinced they are out of danger from Saddam or Al-Sadr supporters, so they have to still mince their words. I think many of them are glad, but they don't want to say it aloud for fear of attacks. It will still be a few years before the Iraqis feel truly safe, but they will get there.

I agree with that. After hearing some of the Iraqi team saying they don't want Bush to use there success in his speechs.
