Maryland Comptroller William Donald Schaefer said yesterday that illegal aliens drain health care resources -- his second recent criticism about immigration.
During a Board of Public Works meeting in Annapolis, Mr. Schaefer asked state health Secratary Nelson J. Sabatini how much the state spends on health care for illegal immigrants.
When told that the figure is about $40 million, Mr. Schaefer said: "Our own people, that is legitimate Americans, cannot get health care."
He added that it would be a "tragedy" if the country becomes billingual -- English and Spanish speaking.

The amount the state spends on health care for illegal aliens could be closer to $100 million, said Delegate Pat McDonough, Baltimore County Republican.

Do you have any facts or statistics to back up your statement or is this just wishful thinking on your part?
That's why the hospitals and clinics, and doctors want to continue treating them. The fact that they make more than they lose doesn't keep them from whining for compensation for the amount they lose.
Any uncompensated costs for medical treatment rendered to illegal aliens is simply passed on to the hospital's paying customers. When the ratio of non-paying customers to paying customers becomes too lopsided on the non-paying side, the hospital won't be able to cover its operating expenses and will eventually close its doors.
I am just happy he keeps bumping all the immigration threads.
Me too, because he does manage to keep these threads interesting with his quite unusual "logic".
That chain of logic has snapped like a timing belt on a Honda engine at 60,001 miles.
"Any uncompensated costs for medical treatment rendered to illegal aliens is simply passed on to the hospital's paying customers. When the ratio of non-paying customers to paying customers becomes too lopsided on the non-paying side, the hospital won't be able to cover its operating expenses and will eventually close its doors."
It's totally mind-blowingly, shockingly, astonishingly almost unbelievable that someone who claims to know enough about economics to be able to understand what us mere peons can't, namely, how illegal immigration benefits the economy, can't seem to figure this bit of economic theory out.
