"Mr. Schaefer said he supports legal immigration but complained that some people who are not citizens do not have "green cards"" If they had green cards they wouldn't get sick or have accidents? Why is the government hiding this medical miracle from us?
I wonder if anyone has informed him that the decision to provide medical services to indigents is a local one, not a federal one.
The federal law only requires that hospital emergency rooms stabilize anyone brought to them without regard to ability to pay. Once they are stabilized they are on their own. States and local hospitals can draw the line anywhere they want. They can decide to treat only American citizens, only city citizens, only legal immigrants, all immigrants, or no poor people at all.

Gulp. That was me, what you would call a "speed error", of course.

Lucky for you that you are not a lawyer. John Edwards would make mincemeat out of you.

It's especially sad when people who are struggling to pay their own family's $1100-a-month health premium are forced to pay for the health coverage of others.

Los Angeles County was calculated to be spending $340 million per year for health care for illegals a couple of years ago. That figure has since gone up.For a good (yet cheap) time in L.A., do the following:
Get dressed in business attire, grab a clipboard and pen and start visiting county ERs. Once there, pretend like you're doing a head count.

If they have green cards they're more likely to be someone whom a collection agency can extract money out of.

(Border crossing is a misdemeanor. So is drunk driving. Which do we have more checkpoints for?)

LOL! Or you could walk the streets with a cap or shirt labeled INS. Kind of like watching the parting of the Red Sea.

Then give them green cards and everyone will be happy.

Damn, this guy loves drawing a state paycheck. He was the Mayor of Baltimore, then the Governor of Maryland and now the state comptroller. What a hack. Hack or not...He's right on..concerning his statement. Although if I were him....I'd be putting my flack jacket on.
FRegards,

I don't happen to think that lawbreakers should be rewarded for their actions.

Much more than Mandel, Glendenning, Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, Barbara Mikulski, Paul Sarbanes and any of the RATs that have governed or represented this state for decades.

Is he the one who had a kid out of wedlock? No, that was Parris Glendenning - who knocked up one of his high paid assistants.

How about rewarding them for the contributions they are making to this great economy and the services they have provided you?
Or would you rather punish yourself with a recession and a lower living standard?
