This storm has SW Fla in a tizzy. You'd think bottled water was hard currency.

What did folks do before the days of bottled water? Maybe just found a way to survive......? Somehow......?

Wells, for one thing. Also quite a few places in SW and central Florida with artesian wells (whatever they’re called) – just a 2.5 or 3 inch diameter pipe stuck in the ground with water bubbling up out of it. Know of one that’s been used since at least the 1910’s.

There was an old lady who called into Bud Headbanger yesterday. She said in the 20s and 30s the kids would play out in the hurricanes and tropical storms. They had no warning systems and basically just rode out the storms. She said they were never scared.

We used to fill the bathtub, pots and pans.

I was 13 when Hurricane Betsy hit New Orleans. I don't remember there being any trouble with drinking water( you drank tap water then, no choice) but there was no power for 2 weeks and ICE was the thing everyone needed. Food spoiled and it was stifling hot. My father, like many others, stood in line at stores or ice houses or relief trucks, to buy ice.

Really, the media is sensationalizing nothing storms like Bonnie. We've all seen stronger winds and rains in thunderstorms. Just because it's 'named' it's news.
Anything 100mph and under I would sit on my carport and enjoy the breeze.
Weather people want camera time, so they play every storm up. One day they're going to be sorry they used exaggerated language for the minor storms- people won't believe them when there is a serious storm like Betsy or Camille.

They bottled, or otherwise stored, their tap water before the storm arrived. I guess that doesn't even occur to folks these days.

They died of dissentary. We had Alicia hit here in Houston in the early 80's. If you have city water, those lines become polluted or are unusable. We didn't have water for 3 days, power for 2 weeks. Get the bottled water.
