Next year's Rose Parade theme is "Celebrate Family" -- and organizers say that includes homosexual families, too.
The Tournament of Roses has been roundly criticized for its plans to celebrate homosexual families at its 2005 Rose Parade, but officials are not backing down.
So far, it looks like no homosexual groups have signed up to produce a float, but there have been reports that several gay-friendly businesses that usually sponsor ornate floats in the parade are considering incorporating homosexual families along with traditional families on their floats.
The parade, which carries the theme of "Celebrate Family," will be held on Jan. 1 in Pasadena, Calif.
Back in February, Bill Flinn, chief operating officer of the Tournament of Roses, said in an interview with the homosexual publication 365Gay.com that "the definition of family really sits with the individual and we are not defining family."
Pro-family groups couldn't disagree more.
"They absolutely are defining family," said Glenn Stanton, senior analyst for marriage and sexuality at Focus on the Family. "By saying, 'Here are all the wonderful families we are going to celebrate,' that is exactly what they are saying, so they are defining family."
Stanton dismissed as "illogical" Flinn's statement about how an individual defines what a family is.
"Family is a very specific thing," he said. "There are all kinds of different families, but we have to understand that family always brings men and women together. (Men and women help to create families by coming) together to create a marriage and to create mothers and fathers for children.
"There are families that do not always meet that ideal and standard and a good and compassionate society comes to the aid of motherless and fatherless families, but society never intentionally creates those families or celebrates them."
Ron Prentice, executive director of California Family Council, agreed.
"There is absolutely no merit to (Flinn) saying that they are not defining families by virtually opening it to any definition of family that any one might choose," he said. "We know that homosexual activists choose to promote themselves at every available opportunity."
CitizenLink's calls and e-mails to the Tournament of Roses requesting information were not returned.
TAKE ACTION It is important that pro-family groups continue to put pressure on the Tournament of Roses officials, urging them not to include homosexuals in their celebration of the family during the 2005 Rose Parade.
You can do that by calling 626-449-4100 or faxing 626-449-9066. If you would like to send an e-mail please visit our CitizenLink Action Center.

One for the list!
So the Rose Parade wants to turn itself into a Santa Monica Boulevard Gay Day Parade. That's fine by me. I've got other things to do on January first. I can ignore this parade just as easily as I do the other.
I'll be making my call. I hope those who have supported the parade let them party on without any support this year. Every decent concern should pull their float and let this diseased culture know who really pulls the strings.
I would oppose heterosexual sluts on parade also for the same reason I am against homosexuals on parade.
Also write/contact whichever network that shows this parade adn tell them that if they air it, it won't be watched - again!
Good for them.
I was looking forward to the Judy Garland float.
Tournament of Roses to be renamed:
TOURNAMENT OF PANSIES
drip drip drip
Ooooh! That float will be FAB-u-lous!
Well, that gives me a good excuse to sleep late New Years Day.
Big mistake!! If the Rose Parade allows fairy floats then who will work on the floats of the normal people?
The Rose Parade is seen by miilions across the planet. I will make that call.
How long before it's renamed The Tournament of Pansies Parade?
This is just one more step in the legitimization of something that should be tollerated, but NEVER legitimized. I don't want to see homosexuals targeted, but when it comes to their war against a moralistic society, I'm going to stand up and be counted. This is wrong.
Your comment is funny, and one really wonders how long indeed.
I can't remember the last year I failed to sleep through the Tournament of Roses Parade.
However, lots of decent people watch it because they enjoy the pageantry. They, and their sponsors, will feel the heat if this actually does come to pass.
So far, no homosexual family groups have signed up. It's getting really late to sign up for an entry in the parade. It's only 4+ months away at this point. bboop, maybe you could look up whether in fact the deadline for entries has passed.
If there are no homosexual family floats planned, then fine. The parade continues as one of the proudest, most exciting and uplifting events in the U.S.A. If flagrant homosexuality appears as a float theme, then surely they will be boo-ed and harassed out of the parade.
As of this moment, this appears to be a non-issue until more facts are in.
Guess I won't watch the parade or the rosebowl... they are all working together...
Disgusting.
Hey -- most of the designers are gay. Just because there is not one Theme Float about this doesn't mean to me that there will be no 'gay families' on it. We'll see.
