17 employees for a contractor working on a drydocked Navy ship are in court Wednesday facing charges they had false identification documents.
U.S. Attorney Paul J. McNulty said the men are illegal aliens and worked as sandblasters for Network Industries, Limited. That company is working at Metro Machine Corporation in Norfolk on the amphibious assault ship USS Bataan.
According to the federal indictment, one of the men had been deported but somehow was back in the country.
All are charged with having and using a false immigration document and false representation of social security numbers. Eight are also charged with aggravated identity theft.
"These indictments are a significant step forward in our initiative to enhance the security of the ports and military assets in the Hampton Roads area," said McNulty.
The indictment is the result of an investigation by the Department of Homeland Security and Naval Criminal Investigative Services.
Really? That is amazing!
Give them green cards and send them back to work. To hell with the international labor unions.
ping
NOW; FINE their employer 100,000 dollars each for hiring them. This will send up a BIGGGGGGG smoke signal.
I have a bunch of these people who should be indicted down here in NYC.
NO! Say it ain't so! < /sarcasm>
Yeah, to hell with the labor unions. I mean, who are they to tell us we can and cannot hire. If we want to hire some guy named Ahamad who changed his name to Jose and crawled across the Rio Grande so he could get close to US warships, who are they to argue?
Great! I hope this contractor is fined big time and is barred from ever again doing work for the military. How many terrorists could have gotten access to a Navy ship in order to plan an attack, to sabotage the vessell, or to set up some sort of bomb on the ship?
Those Illegaliens were just stealing the identities Americans won't steal.
First, if found guilty, throw these lawbreakers in prison for document fraud. Then, after they finish their prison sentences, deport these illegal alien lawbreakers!
Really, illegal aliens only want to do the work that Americans won't do, such as those shipyard jobs that pay only $30 an hour.
You're are incredible *LOL* Falsifying documents means nothng to you.
I disagree with fining the Employers, give the Employers jail time. Dont blame the illegals they are just looking for work. Blame those who hire them , Jail time will break this crap up.
If congress would declare war...this contractor could be guilty of a far more serious crime
Jail these guys...national security is at stake....send a message...a clear message....
Don't blame those who hire them, they are just responding to the demands of consumers; blame the people who buy houses, cars, clothes, food, and manicured lawns. Blame those who drive on highways, have indoor plumbing, eat at restaurants, use hospitals, and have jobs thanks to an expanding economy.
"Give them green cards and send them back to work."
Balderdash - put them in irons & ship their illegal butts out of here. Also the employer should be subject to both fines & prison, maybe even tried for treason since these were defense contracts.
THAT will not happen. The GOP doesn't have hopes of getting big hispanic votes, but it does have hope of getting huge contributions for companies that don't want to pay Expensive American workers...so the beat goes on.
If anything, enforcing immigration rules against legitimate laborers only drains resources that could be concentrated on detecting terrorists.
In the instant case, these laborers were contributing to our national defense. Using the government to take jobs away from immigrants and give them to members of international labor unions will only raise defense costs and homeland security costs.
Mexican or Middle Eastern?
