We need to get to the root of the problem...that would be the disrespect offered by the skateboarders and their parents. They know the rules but rosey cheeked Johnny doesn't have to obey them, thus creating a disrespect for others, authority and law. Their sweet little boys are above the law. That breeds no personal responsibility...a lack of self government...and certainly reflects poor parenting in my opinion.

Okay...stepping down from my soapbox...but I really like the extra height it offered for a moment in time. :o)

There it is.

Here in my little neck of the woods the Veterans are less than thrilled with us because skateboarders are destroying "Veterans Park" by rolling over things and breaking them. The've posted "NO SKATEBOARDING" signs but those zany madcap kids just pull them down. Boys will be boys.

Then when the rotten cops give them a summons for trespassing or damaging, they have their picture in the newspaper the next day, pouting, and telling their story about the nasty policeman.

I once thought about opening up a skateboard park where kids could skate but then I read about all the lawsuits from parents when their kid got hurt on the property.

Forget it. Just another example how lawsuits are ruining everything.

I wonder why the veterans aren't as mad about the bums who bath and do their laundry in the fountain.... or sit their drinking hootch all day long.... another of life's mysteries.

How about we get back to sane laws and police that are not a pseudo-military. Then we can address the Very Serious Problem of sk8rz.

I teach my kids to avoid police if at all possible. Do not talk to them, do not do anything that will bring you in contact with them. And NEVER EVER EVER volunteer ANY information to anyone associated with any level of government.

Longing for the good ol' days, when Wally and Beaver and Larry and Eddie were playing sandlot baseball in the vacant lot (though a sign on the fence did say "No Tresspassing) . . . then the neighborhood cop would come and taser Wally et al, slap 'em in cuffs, haul them down to the hoosegow, throw them in jail with irons . . .

Ward Cleaver didn't need anyone to teach him how to raise his kids!
