Kerry "Corrects Record," "Seared" Memory of Christmas in Cambodia Now "Mistaken Recollection"
Wednesday, August 11, 2004 | Kristinn

Posted on 08/11/2004 6:41:38 AM PDT by kristinn

In an interview this morning on Fox and Friends, Kerry spokeman Jeh Johnson backed off of Democrat presidential nominee Senator John Kerry's repeated statements that he had spent Christmas 1968 on a secret mission in Cambodia.

Fox's Brian Kilmead asked Mr. Johnson whether Sen. Kerry would release the action report from January 20, 1969 regarding purported action in Cambodia.

Mr. Johnson said, "I believe you're referring to an incident that happened near Cambodia. Okay, well John Kerry has said on the record that he had a mistaken recollection earlier. He talked about a combat situation on Christmas Eve, 1968, which at one point he said occurred in Cambodia. He has since corrected the record to say it was someplace on a river near Cambodia and he is certain that at some point subsequent to that he was in Cambodia. My recollection, my understanding is he was not certain about that date.

Mr. Kilmead brought up Sen. Kerry's 1986 floor speech in the Senate where he talked about spending Christmas in Cambodia as being "seared---seared" in his memory.

Mr. Johnson replied, "I believe he's corrected the record to say it was someplace near Cambodia, but he is not certain whether it was actually in Cambodia but he is certain that there was some point subsequent to that that he was in Cambodia."

Mr. Johnson also repeated Sen. Kerry's canard that he left Yale in 1966 and turned down all options to further his education by choosing to serve his country. As was (barely) reported in March of this year, Sen. Kerry asked for and was denied a one year deferment to study in Paris.

Kerry's lies are catching up with him. He thought his liberal media buddies would protect him.

Has anyone noticed that when Kerry gets caught in one of his lies the media switches to Scott Peterson.

Or Abu-Grabag.

I had an idea to hound him about it at all his speaking stops - Wear a Santa Suit and Get the Truth Out or otherwise expose his duplicitous nature.

Look, isn't it obvious? Kerry had a little whore, whom he nicked named "Cambodia" and well, on Christmas he was busy being "in" with Cambodia .... and he can't tell the whole truth because Teresa would find out and would cut him off that the knees and he's really a swell guy, just trust what he's says is the best thing for us, and vote him into office anyway?

Kerry's so called "honest mistakes" are anything but honest. Kerry is "Unfit For Duty" and the DNC is" A National Party No More" because they have picked this loser and are trying to cram him down America's throat. I don't buy any part of Kerry's story.

Well then, let's chase this one down shall we... Senator Kerry, Which river near Cambodia were you on? What was your mission? Who served at your side on this mission? Was your mission a success? When was your mission complete? Was it a top secret mission?

Most of these questions should be able to be independently verifiable to corroborate with his new story... and if recollection for Kerry is weak, then at the very least, he lied on the floor of the Senate (an honored Senate tradition) when he said it was "seared" in his memory... of course wa all know that words mean different things to different people...

It's not only where he said he was, but when he said he was there. An event that is of itself memorable will be more readily remembered in detail. Being in Cambodia in 1968 would have been such an event. A memorable event that takes place on a date that has other independent significance will be even more memorable. Being in Cambodia on Christmas will be even more memorable than being there on a date that has no other significant meaning.

I can't tell you what I did each day in 2001, but I can tell you that on September 11, I was sitting in front of my computer at work when a co-worker (of Arab descent, ironically) asked me if I still had my mini TV in my office because a plane had flown into one of the twin towers. He was also the one who told me that the second tower and the Pentagon had been hit. Later that day, I had a Master Commissioer's hearing, and before going over I called and asked if the hearing would still be taking place, given all that had happened. The hearing was still on, and I remember there was already a special edition of the local paper in print and on sale. When I went home that night, the gas lines at the convenience store near my house were backed up because people were afraid there was going to be a spiek in gas prices. I got home that night and my mom and dad, and my best friend were at my house. My wife had previously invited them over for a surprise birthday dinner (my birthday is on 9/12). We all ate and then watched the coverage for the rest of the night. Of course, the point of this story is that because of the significance of that date, I can remember more detail of what I did on 9/11/01 than on any other date that year.

I have a vague recollection of the same article. It is from a series on Kerry, and I think it was from the Boston Globe. Kerry made statements during his senior year at Yale regarding the war.

OMG.......Caller on Laura Ingraham's show is saying HE read all 4 of the captain's reports from the day Kerry pulled Rasmussen out of the water. It was his duty to read ALL swift boat action reports

He's saying in all 4 reports THERE WAS NO ENEMY FIRE REPORTED, and Rasmussen was ON KERRY'S boat..........AND the reason Rasmussen fell overboard was because KERRY TOOK OFF SO FAST he fell off the stern.

Awesome point! How could you forget going, or in this case not going there in 1968.

FELLOW POSTERS:

I have zero photoshop skills, but I have ideas...Can someone photoshop Kerry's head into the Apocolypse Now poster in blace of Brando's?? Maybe with Edwards looking over his shoulder in place of the equally revolting Martin Sheen?

"Okay, well John Kerry has said on the record that he had a mistaken recollection earlier."

It's more serious than merely misrememberng something given the implications of being in Cambodia at that time. People can misremember things but Kerry should never have said this publicly unless he was absolutely certain of his facts. This "mistatement" shows a profound lack of judgment on his part, at best.

Two people seem to have difficulty explaining their whereabouts on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day:

Scott Peterson said he was on a boat, FISHING in San Francisco Bay.

John Kerry said he was on a boat in CAMBODIA.

Both are lying.

the reason Rasmussen fell overboard was because KERRY TOOK OFF SO FAST he fell off the stern.

Yep, that was obvious. And the reason his other buddy was injured is that Kerry pushed him out of the way as he (Kerry) attempted to run from battle.

Wasn't the whole point of Kerry's telling the story in the first place that he was in Cambodia (during the "Nixon era") on some "secret mission" in December 1968?

Nixon "era" didn't start till Jan 21 1969.

This statement was made by Sen. Kerry on the floor of the U.S. Senate in 1986:
"I remember Christmas of 1968 sitting on a gunboat in Cambodia. I remember what it was like to be shot at by the Vietnamese and Khmer Rouge and Cambodians, and have the president of the United States telling the American people that I was not there; the troops were not in Cambodia. I have that memory which is seared--seared--in me."
Whether this is mendacity or mental incompetence, such a man must not be elected President of the United States.

The September 11, 2001, attack on the U.S. was never repeated--thanks to the clear thinking and expert leadership of President Bush. He must be re-elected. The fate of the U.S. and the fate of the world depend upon it.

The upcoming election will be the most important presidential election in American history.

President Bush must be re-elected.

Sen. Kerry cannot be allowed to become the most powerful man in the world!

Jeh Johnson did the 'ol shell game' for Jean-Forbeis last night on Hannity & Colmes. I'm sure he'll getta top, food-service job in the White House if Kerry cons his way into the presidency.

How the dem party elite woulda loved to have young Obama as their candidate! True socialism could be acheived under his reign instead of this boorish, brahmin fill-in with the same old foppish liberal half-measures!
