The Cuban American National Foundation completely rejects Mr. Moore’s bigoted comments against the Cuban-American community and this organization in particular. While Mr. Moore has a right to express his views, it is unfortunate and disingenuous to choose a group, which in many respects is the embodiment of the American Dream, as his target. As most useful idiots, Mr. Moore will go down in history as an apologist for the most brutal dictatorship in the history of the Americas.
45 years of totalitarianism is not an excusable response to the acts of prior governments of Cuba, just as McCarthyism’s targeting of the left did not provide an excuse for the real threat that Soviet communism posed to American freedom and liberty.
We suggest that Mr. Moore visit Cuba, in particular the wives of the 75 dissidents, many of whom are in jail for practicing the same craft that has made Mr. Moore a rich socialist. These dissidents are people like Mr. Raul Rivero, a poet and a philosopher whose only crime has been to disagree with the Cuban dictator. Perhaps the next time that Mr. Moore points his jaded gaze at Mr. Castro’s victims, both the Cuban-American community and the 11 million who suffer under Castro’s totalitarianism, he might find the same sympathy in his heart that at times he has been able to muster in his documentaries.
Moore just makes friends wherever he goes.
I can only guess, and my guess is that it was something pretty ugly.
I appreciate the CANF pointing out Moore's hypocrisy.
What do you think would have happened to Michael Moore had he been a citizen of Cuba, living on the Island, and if had made a movie critical of a decision that Fidel had made, and holding Fidel up to ridicule?
To ask that question is to provide the answer.
This guy just doesn't realize the higer he goes in his mind; the harder he is going to fall.
Moore wrote a letter to Elian Gonzalez praising Castro and ripping the exiles in South Florida that was published in the Miami Herald yesterday or the day before. For all intents and purposes, he just mobilized the Cuban American vote for Dubya.
A few days ago the Miami Herald printed an article from Moore calling Elian Gonzolas's mother a child abuser. He then went on a rant about how great Cuba is compared to the US.
A democratic senatorial candidate was outed for attending a Moore speech during the dem convention. All Cuban-American politicians boycotted Moore.
All these stories should be preceded with "Democrat and Kerry supporter Moore......." and then show the picture of Moore with Carter etc. in the presidential box at the DNC convention.
Nice easy accurate commercials demonstrating Kerry's socialist ties.
I would say the Michael Moore is pure, unadulterated slime, except for one fact.
And that is that he is being really quite helpful in getting President Bush re-elected.
Even so, Michael Moore is slime.
