Saw barbieandken on CNN headline news saying that Goss is known as partisan in favor of CIA funding. It won't be an easy confirmation hearing.

I don't see the CIA as having failed. I see the process as enforced by Gorelick and her ilk, such as Toricelli and others, as having made sure the CIA failed in it's mission to protect the USA.

Their mission was to protect America's enemies around the world.

Agreed. Hope he's way clean. That'll simplify things.

Seems like the most obvious and qualified choice.

Let's hope the Dems don't have any surprises up their sleeves on this one...like blocking his nomination hoping for a Kerry Presidential win and HIS pick for the position.

Would anybody be surprised if the Dems put politics over our nation's security?

I agree, and not only to protect America's enemies around the world but assist a "first" class ticket to set up shop right here in our midst.

Bush picks new CIA 'czar'
10/08/2004 13:57 - (SA)

Washington - President George W Bush has chosen Porter Goss, head of the House intelligence committee, to be the new director of the CIA, it was learned on Tuesday.

A senior administration official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Bush planned to announce the selection of Goss later on Tuesday during a White House appearance.

Goss, a Republican from Florida, has been mentioned prominently in speculation about a successor to departed CIA Director George Tenet.

Bush's decision comes in the wake of the president's embrace of a key recommendation of the commission that investigated the September 11, 2001 attacks: creation of a new intelligence czar to oversee the activities of the CIA and more than a dozen other intelligence agencies.

Speaking last week of the pleas for change by the 9/11 commission, Goss had said: "We cannot afford to make changes blindly or in an unnecessary haste. We can ill-afford to rush to judgment any more than we can tolerate needless delay."

Although Goss was among the leading candidates mentioned when Tenet announced his resignation earlier this year, there had been some recent speculation that his prospects had dimmed, due at least in part to the unavoidable controversies that surround a leading player in Congress.

Tenet's last day was July 11, and the much-criticised agency since then has been under the leadership of acting Director John McLaughlin.

What impact does this have on his Florida seat?

None. His district consists of Lee and Collier counties. Naples and Fort Myers are the two biggest cities. Naples has been described as a "Tropical ATM for the Republican Party." It's like a non-evil version of Palm Beach, only richer. Fort Myers is reliably GOP.

The Dems didn't even bother to run a candidate against Goss in 2002. North Korea has more political diversity than Goss' district.

Pretty hard to connect the dots when you have a mile high wall around each one and certain folks in congress just waiting to pounce if the wall is breached by so much as an inch.

Supposedly ABC has announced that Senator Roberts has determined that this will NEVER come to the floor for a vote.

He fits the mold of the elite keeping the lid on things so the sheeple in the hustings don't get the notion to do the right thing as the founders anticipated and even required the populace to do as in many of the writings leading up to the founding and for example, what the writers of the Constitution of NH considered. That is, our government is of the "people" not of the elite.

Wow, you garnered all of that from his name? Damn, you're good. You should take that public and make a killing...

Criminy....

"I'm trying to remember who the politico was who was firmly against Goss..."

Rockefeller, the ranking Dem on the Intelligence Committee, commented on one of the weekend news shows that he considered Goss too political. Good for Goss!

Yes, that was it, Rockefeller. I wondered at the time who his (Rockefeller's) candidate was. I'm sure he had one. I am also sure that him being against Goss means it is a good pick, in addition to the obvious reasons.

Hillary probably doesn't have his FBI file.

I'll bet that's right.

He's probably got more on her than she does on him...

Why, did Pat want the job?
What reason did Roberts give for not wanting this to come to a floor vote?

wasn't he the chairman of the house intelligence committee before during and after 9/11? This is the best we can do?

Actualy, if the Dems delay the hearing..it'll end up like the Homeland security issue in 2002..which cost them big time..

Rockefeller is the Senator who was responsible for the infamous memo calling for the total politicization of classified information, with selected leaks to discredit President Bush at critical times for the re-election effort. I WILL NEVER FORGET THIS!!!

Zell Miller, the principled Democrat, said at the time that it was, if not treason, it's first cousin.

Senator Roberts at the time threatened to shut down all committee work, and was publicly outraged. So far, I don't believe he's had any effect on the OUTRAGEOUS sacks of bleeping bleep serving on that bleeping committee.

The most honest words I could use would get me banned, here. I despise these lowest of the low, these unregenerate liars, these cowardly, vicious, unspeakably evil, reptilian THINGS!!!

Rant off...time for a walk in the garden, and some prayer. God, I beg that You deal with these .... creatures.
