"Hmmm. I'm dissapointed by the choice. I'm not sure he's of the mind to work on transforming the CIA to deal with the new threats facing the US."

Not sure why you think this, Porter Goss has the best insights into the enemy at home as well as abroad. He's worked side by side with these lying liberals.

Excellent choice- as Chairman of the House Select Comm on Intel- he is up to the minute on security issues and he's a pro reform man.

I view him as an apologist for the CIA regarding some of the failures in the last few years. Porter Goss came from the CIA that was mainly focused on threats related to the Cold War. I question how successful he'll be in this new environment.

Anyone else just hear something on ABC about Sen. Pat Roberts swearing never to let the nomination come to the floor?

Congress and the President sets the parameters of what the CIA does.

CIA has been a "political" tool and continually gets the "grade" card when those that fund and control the who, what, where, when and why of this agency, point the finger of blame for any and all failures.

Congress allocates the money, and they have the oversight and somehow always get a pass and no accounting for this half@ss work.

According to reports i heard, Goss
critiqued the CIA's "risk-averse"
mindset in some public way, & went
on to name specific reforms. When
Tenet learned of it, he fired off
a blistering, defensive letter to
Goss in rebuttal.

Note that Bill Gertz has written and spoke of Porter Goss in an unfavorable manner concerning the CIA. I've also considered Gertz to be someone who is fairly in the know, so one has to consider why Gertz believes what he does about Goss.

I also have to consider why Bill Gertz seems to have a great relationship with Greta. Bill Gertz always has a slot on her show and her hubby works for the JFKerry campaign.

So much for the silly rumors Dick Cheney would resign and take this post.

Will the confirmation hearings start with the Senate Intelligence committee, will they be televised, and will Kerry show up? This could be very informative! Sure, Kerry will give a canned speech during the hearings but can he hold his own against Goss when it comes to the Q&A?

Supposedly Sen. Roberts isn't even going to allow a confirmation hearing to take place.

What did Gertz have to say?

I'll review the couple of books from Gertz and post tomorrow. It was not flattering if I remember correctly. I also heard him on a radio show talking about Goss and he said he thought he would be a poor choice for DCI.

Thanks. Would you ping me, please? I'd be interested in Gertz's take on Goss.

I don't know him from a hole in the wall but all one has to consider is his name. Last name for a first name gives me several clues. He went to boarding school at a place like Phillips Andover or Exeter, he is a graduate of Yale or Harvard and could be a Skull and Bones member. Am I close?

He fits the mold of the elite keeping the lid on things so the sheeple in the hustings don't get the notion to do the right thing as the founders anticipated and even required the populace to do as in many of the writings leading up to the founding and for example, what the writers of the Constitution of NH considered. That is, our government is of the "people" not of the elite.

Found this concerning article by Gertz concerning Goss in doing some googling:

"Legislation to create serious competitive analysis by outside critics was watered down in the authorization bill at the urging of CIA and with the help of Rep. Porter Goss, the House Intelligence Committee chairman. Mr. Goss, R-Fla., is a former CIA officer and has earned a reputation for running interference for the CIA rather than conducting aggressive oversight."

I wonder how long it will take him to get confirmed...

The Dims will be BIG losers if they use their judicial tactics or any other delaying tactics on Mr. Goss. Smart move by President Bush. He will get his man by speedy confirmation, or he will have a BIG issue if Daschund and his dog pound obstructs.
