"I didn't really want to get involved in the war," Kerry said in a little-noticed contribution to a book of Vietnam reminiscences published in 1986. "When I signed up for the swift boats, they had very little to do with the war. They were engaged in coastal patrolling and that's what I thought I was going to be doing." But two weeks after he arrived in Vietnam, the swift boat mission changed -- and Kerry went from having one of the safest assignments in the escalating conflict to one of the most dangerous. Under the newly launched Operation SEALORD, swift boats were charged with patrolling the narrow waterways of the Mekong Delta to draw fire and smoke out the enemy. Cruising inlets and coves and canals, swift boats were especially vulnerable targets.
Who was it this weekend that defended Kerry with "KERRY VOLUNTEERED FOR COMBAT!!" Was it that liberal weasel, Juan on FNS?
He did nothing of the sort by his own admission. He outhunk himself, and ended up in combat.

I'd say at this point in time that the public's right to know exceeds Kerry's right to privacy concerning the records he has not released.
1) He is running for the highest office in the nation and placing his Military service as the centerpiece of his campaign.
2) There are severe discrepancies in his accounts and accounts of others with first hand knowledge.
3) Time is of the essence and records should be released now so the public can judge the truth before the election.
4) Kerry has partially released his records with gaps in them, thus negating his right to privacy
I suggest some sharp attorney file a lawsuit to release his records.....
The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and the Privacy Act provide balance between the right of the public to obtain information from military service records, and the right of the former military service member to protect his/her privacy. In general, information available from military service records which can be released without violation of the Privacy Act are: Name, Service Number (not Social Security Number), Rank, Dates of Service, Awards and Decorations, and Place of Entrance and Separation. If the veteran is deceased, the Place of Birth, Date of Death, Geographical Location of Death, and Place of Burial can also be released.
Court Order: Access to military personnel and medical records on file at the National Personnel Records Center, may also be gained pursuant "to the order of a court of competent jurisdiction." Subpoenas qualify as orders of a court of competent jurisdiction only if they have been signed by a judge. To be valid, court orders must also be signed by a judge. Authority for these requirements is 5 U.S.C. 552a(b) (11), as interpreted by Doe vs. DiGenova, 779 F. 2d 74 (D.C. Cir. 1985), and Stiles vs. Atlanta Gas and Light Company, 453 F. Supp. 798 (N.D. This little fact is what Susan Estrich almost had a heart attack about the other night on Hannity and Colmes. She interrupted the swift boat vet just as he was getting to this. Stopped him cold and it was never brought up that night. I am glad to see this is being revealed.

Clinton and Hillary sold themselves to the dumbest voters as two for the price of one. Kerry on the other hand is advertising himself not only as a Commander-in-Chief but also as an Army, Air Force,Navy, Marine Corp and Coast Guard, for the price of one. Yup, and Rassman was only in the water because he fell off the boat when Kerry made a herky jerky move after another boat was hit by a mine. So, but for Kerry's lousy skippering, Rassman wouldn't have been in the water.

This particular story is being told on The Roger Hedgecock. The story is NOTHING like what Kerrey is saying. They were NOT under fire and the reason the guy fell off the boat was because Kerry took off when a hand detonated grenade took off and hit a boat in the pack. Protocol says you go to the boat that's hit and take care of the wounded, but John Kerry ran and when he ran he knocked the guy off the boat! Then one of the guys on the boat told him there was a man overboard. THERE WAS NEVER ANY ENEMY FIRE, thereby making him ineligable for the medal that he received. They've been working and they have all the people and facts together now!

Any body here read the Patrick O'Brien books? Master and Commander the movie was losely based on two or three of them. Capt Jack Aubrey, one of the two main characters, routinely pulls people out of the sea when they fall in and never even puts it in the log.
