I am looking for a gun range in Houston (preferably one that is within walking distance of the University of Houston, or that is reachable from there via some sort of public transportation) that is "woman-friendly" and that would offer rentals.
Thanks.

Second Column on the right lists a number of Houston ranges. My guess is that if you were to call any of them they'd be happy to tell you if there were any close to campus.
Just curious, and with no agenda implied..but what do you mean by "woman friendly?"..I thought businesses woudl encourage as many folks as possible to patronize them, and NOT discourage 50 of their potential market?
I'm not familiar with that area but just about any range is "woman friendly". They are also "Asian friendly", "atheist friendly", "carnivore friendly", "cat owner friendly", etc.
Do have some kind of specific concerns or experiences? Shooting is a very focused kind activity, no one will pay any attention to you unless you forget the rules or do something dangerous.
If you are looking for women in your area that shoot and support the 2nd amendment, look up the Second Amendment Sisters. There are many chapters and they will help learn to shoot, if that's what you want.
Out of curiosity, what in your opinion, makes a shooting range woman friendly? I'm asking, because I've never seen one that I'd say was unfriendly to women. Hell, I've never seen one where gender played even the slightest role.
Thanks for the replies. I had mixed feelings about using the term "woman-friendly."
I have been to places in which the common areas were, shall we say, "grungy." They were dimly lit, and (I suspect) the restrooms may not have been the best.
On the other hand, I have been to places (e.g. Targetmaster in southeast Pennsylvania, near the Delaware state line) that are wide open, well lit, and clean. THAT kind of place is what I had in mind.
Perhaps I just should have used those terms instead of woman friendly. It sounds a bit condescending, now that I think about it. Thanks for pointing it out.
What's remarkable, aside from the three consecutive posts askign the same question, was the fact that all were so nice and polite...carefully worded..guess this means that FR is "women-frendly"...LOL..regards
Top Gun http://www.topgunrange.com/ is a very clean, well appointed indoor range- but it's not very close to U of h- it's just south of richmond around chimney rock. Nice folks.
Top Gun, while not in walking distance from UH, is supposed to be fairly "gal friendly." It's my ex girlfriend's favorite range.
I prefer to shoot at American Shooting Center. You can catch me there pretty much any weekend.
We go to American Shooting Center on the west side of town (16500 Westheimer). It's not what I would call "woman-friendly," because I don't know what the hell that means, but they're always as nice to me as they are to Xena's Guy.
You'd best say hi next time we're out there!
Will do...I need to get a freep shirt or something.
I do have 'Molon Labe' inscribed on my bicep. :-)
Thanks. How close is American Shooting Center to University of Houston? Is it reachable via public transportation? Thanks.
Just curious......... You are flying a PA flag so I assume you are new to Houston or maybe down on a temporary assignment.... I can't help with the Shooting ranges but there is an active chapter of FR there. You may contact some of them and they may be able to give you some advice. You may go to the Texas State message board and post a request also.....
Good luck
Looking at a Metro map. Metro will get you close (West Oaks Mall), but not quite there. If there's a freep function at the range, I'm sure someone would be happy to pick you up.
Thanks for the post. I am asking on behalf of a friend who attends UH. Now that you remind me, I will post on the Texas state board as well. I appreciate it.
You know, there might be something to this gender gap thing. After reading your response, I tried to see if I could recall the state of any of the restrooms at any of the shooting ranges I've ever been to, and I drew a complete blank.
There gonna be a Glocktoberfest this year? There needs to be.
