"House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) launched an attack against Obama, his strongest to date, during an interview Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press." He accused Obama of voting against stiffer penalties for drug use, drug dealing and for people who kill emergency workers in the line of duty."

Looks like Hastert is pro-Keyes -- hope some of the reluctant Freepers will take the hint.

I love listening to Keyes speak. I get completely hypnotized by him. I wish him well in his campaign. He has a tough road ahead but I have this gut feeling he may just win.

A real conservative vs a real liberal. Alan is firing on all cylinders. Its going to be an exciting three months in the Land Of Lincoln! The fact Dick Durbin is concerned strongly suggests we've found a candidate who can give Barack Obama a run for the money.

Am I totally crazy to think that Keyes has a shot? I really think that once people see who Obama really is, they'll support Keyes. But then again, I'm a Texan, so what is the pulse in Illinois? Can he beat the "rising star of the Democratic Party"?

Sidenote: By the way, the whole "rising star" title drives me totally crazy. The media says he is, but they are the one who made him one. It drives me nuts. I've never seen a media-ordained rising star in the Republican Party (other than "Maverick" Senator John McCain and his "Straight Talk Express".) Alright, I am getting more angry as I sit here thinking about it, so I'll stop.

"Alan Keyes is in the dark,'' he said. "It would be very difficult to serve in the Senate with someone who couldn't find the counties of the state with a road map.'

Dick Durbin. Now there's a source you can trust. He couldn't find the truth if it was wrapped in hundred dollar bills.

Heck yeah baby! Let's get this Illinois GOP juggernaut rolling - calling all comptrollers!

I will be voting for Keyes and I hope there are televised debates but, I can only be so hopeful about this.

Alan Keyes in Illinois is no better than Hillary Clinton running in New York. All of us Republicans decried her as a lousy carpetbaggger and declared that anyone who voted for her was an imbecile. How can we now support Keyes? He's not from Illinois and has never lived there. He doesn't have a prayer in this election yet a bunch of Republicans will become hypocrites and support him just because he's in the GOP. If we can't find a decent Republican from the state then we deserve to lose it.

Good for Alan - I hope his party has the stones to back him up.

Someone should hand Obama a map and ask him where Williamson County is.

Obama pushed a bill requiring that those convicted of a capital crime could not be executed unless they CONFESSED. That is just the tip of the iceberg. Just another far-left wacko, albeit a well-spoken wacko.

I think the keyes osama obama debates should occur in a park outside the Ottawa court hose, Alton, and another couple where they occurred in 1858.

Might be fun, for the osama of illinois politics to defend the osama of world politics, BTW can you image the face of little dickie if he has to introduce Alan as the junior senator from illinois.

"Alan Keyes is in the dark,'' he (Durbin-D) said.

Is this a veiled reference to Alan's skin tone???

Why would Keyes be a carpetbagger when MS. Rodham settled this to liberal's satisfaction four years ago?

There should be an outcry about the press release that appears in most newspapers today, identifying Alan Keyes as a "conservative," but Obama as the Democrats' rising star.

Absolutely no mention of Obama as a "liberal."

There are three things I have to say about this.

1) This is the first time in that state that both candidates are black. It is a state that has had it's share of racism in the past. This may lead to a strong third party bid for some racist candidate. That would be a VERY bad thing. This race is not about race, but about principles. I fear some of those more reluctant Freepers out there might be of the same mind, whether hidden or not.

2) Freepers are going to have to be very careful about what is said with regards to Dr. Keys run. The reason? His candidacy resembles another senate race that Freepers slammed the candidate for being a carpetbagger. That would be in New York. Hitlary. Most of us objected to her because she is a spawn of the Devil himself, but others objected on the grounds that she wasn't from there.

3) Good luck to Dr. Keys and I hope he finds the votes and support he needs to actually do two things, turn around the state of Illinois and get it solidly in the R column for years to come and have an elective position that he finally deserves. He needs to have a voice in public. He has too many ideas and principles to not be out there.

Paul

Just saw him on Hannity and Colmes. Brilliant man and I'd LOVE to see him win. A true debater and a great image for the Republican party. Compare this guy to Maxine Watters or anyone else in the Black Caucus and I'm glad to have him on our side!
