Since Kerry insists he was wounded so severely that "his blood pooled on the deck "( from his bio) this all can be settled by just showing us the scar...
A wound of that nature would leave a substantial scar.
Does anyone have any close up photo of Kerry with his shirt off a la Teddy?

A wound of that nature would leave a substantial scar.

My own wounds were relatively minor, but after more than 36 years they are still visible. You have to look close - but they are there.

If anything was "pooled on the deck" it was probably a yellowish body fluid.

And yet he (IIRC) he only missed 2 days duty for all three of his purple heart.
