Donation solicitor arrested in Princeton
08/05/2004
PRINCETON BOROUGH -- A 35-year-old man "employed by the Democratic National Committee" was arrested while going door-to-door soliciting donations after authorities discovered he had seven active criminal and motor vehicle warrants, police said yesterday.
Robert H. Codey Jr., of Prospect Street, Newark, was taken into custody around 5:33 p.m. yesterday on Gordon Way in Princeton Borough as he was soliciting donations in a residential neighborhood, police said.
Patrolman John Furyk had initially responded to that area on a report of a suspicious individual when he spotted Codey, who told the officer he was soliciting residents for campaign donations for the DNC.
A check on Codey revealed he had seven active criminal and motor vehicle warrants out of multiple municipal courts, police said.
He was arrested and taken to police headquarters where he was processed and eventually turned over to West Orange Police Department.
Codey is employed as a solicitor for the Democratic National Committee, according to the police arrest report.
He faces charges of contempt of court in addition to other offenses, police said. He is being held in lieu of $3,577 bail, police said.
In both cases, the ACT and DNC employed people with a criminal past who in their new job would have easy access to information that could be used for idenity theft. Guess as long as they stole your idenity and voted Democrat, that's no big deal for the DNC.
BTTT
