1. get rid of ethanol
2. more nuclear plants
Also Venezuela. What we need to to invade the Caucasus region. Smash terrorists, keep an emerging Russia at bay and exploit the oil and gas.
Why not nuclear? Even France uses it more than us. The technology today is amazing. And most of the negative nuclear information came from a stupid movie.
Even Three Mile Island, back in the late '70s, wasn't as big an "accident" as reported. It was routine.
Also, did you know coal and oil burning facilities that produce electricity create far more waste products that are hard to get rid of? The concept nuclear plants create massive amounts of radioactive waste is just another myth.
And technology is catching up to the point we will be able to increase the decaying process of that waste and make it inert in years or months rather than centuries.
And the costs are much different today. The only thing that drove up the costs was the overregulation from the envirowackos because of their ridiculous fears. And it still does.
Heck, more radiation naturally comes out of the planet around us than waste from nuclear plants could harm us with.
Perhaps Kerry is thinking "Heck no, we won't buy oil from those Saudis, we'll buy it from folks we can really trust. Nations I have a good familiarity with. People who share my values. People with a social agenda I believe in. Russia and China!"
WTG Dave! Very true. Only 25% of our imports are from the Persian Gulf countries. We get more from Mexico than we do from Saudi Arabia. Which would explain the lax immigration policies towards both countries.
And as endthematrix pointed out, we get a lot from Venezuala.
Also, if Bush was fighting a "war for oil" in Iraq, wouldn't it make more sense to invade Mexico? We not only could take their oil but we could stop the illegal immigration problem to boot! And it would be much, much cheaper. And our soldiers could go home on the weekends! lol
Yeah right...Kerry wanted energy independence soooo much that neither he or Edwards voted for Bush's energy proposal...
1) Drill...everywhere-screw the envirowackos.
Yup.
2) Build 100 new nuclear plants, two per state.
Yup (just like France)
3) Encourage and build the infrastructure for more usage of natural gas.
Yup.
4) Quit taxing consumption of gasoline at such high levels since almost all states have huge surpluses in their transportation departments and most of them are so corrupt they'd make Al Capone blush.
Of course! Don't tax consumption, give huge tax incentives for conservation! If I buy some stupid hybrid jalopy, give me at least $5,000 in cash and a 50% break on the insurance....duh...!
5) Give up on solar, wind and other ridiculous power supplies. We've wasted billions of dollars over decades and haven't gotten one inch better in the technology while the increases in technology for coal, oil, nuclear, etc. have been monumental. But as is typical for idiot liberals, they hang on to discredited and proven false ideals while pooh-poohing new ideas.
Wind is viable, solar is useless, coal is a huge resource that has been regulated out of our economy, coal-to-diesel is a sure win for the US!
6) Quit wasting billions on farm subsidies for ethanol. If anyone is willing to do the research they'll find the use of mixed fuel ethanol decreases engine efficiency to the point more usage increases the need to burn the oil part of the formula. Thus, the more you use ethanol the more oil based gasoline you use to get the same results. My father proved this years ago when he was a GM mechanical engineer. Of course, they may have improved the formula but I doubt it.
OK
7) Simply tell the public, at no cost, that if they just keep their oil changed, tires at full pressure, the air filter clean, the fuel injectors clean, etc. they could realize many more miles per gallon. Simple preventative maintenance. But then again, the average American is too stupid to do any preventative maintenance of their own bodies and wait until something goes wrong and incur higher healthcare costs.
Simple easy, saves millions of $$
It's not rocket science.
No it's not, but the combination of foreign oil interests with our own enviro whacko's make for a terrible domestic energy policy that just pummels joe six-pack into the dust.
I'm not a big energy centrist (nor a fan of the grid system) and I think a nuke plant shutdown or worse, meltdowns or attack, would jeopardies the surrounding community for alternative power.
Or a Yugo in every pot.
"Any energy plan in a campaign reads more like notes from a brainstorming session than a detailed blueprint for economic and social change. The ideas are diverse and often vague, in an effort to have as many people as possible sign on."
Anonymity? Messy, secret meetings with unnamed energy guys? I'm shocked! Shocked, I tell you! I demand a full, complete, disclosure investigation by a bipartisan Congressional committee, ASAP! </sarcasm-trying-to-sound-like-the-Cheney-bashers>
Yep, that's Kerry!
No, no, no... you misunderstood. It's not Yugos, we're all going to drive hybrids, in fact, he and Edwards are on the list to get one...but the good news is, our spouses can drive SUV's. (end/sarcasm)
